2020 HYUNDAI SONATA Limited vs HONDA ACCORD Touring - [IN DEPTH COMPARISON]

Показать описание
We’ll start behind the wheel of the newcomer- this sonata is all new and you can tell
The limited is the top trim you can get and it comes with the 1.6T engine 180 hp
The base 2.5 NA engine actually makes 11 more hp, but will be less efficient
The turbo engine gets a combined 31 mpg - which is pretty good
Efficiency does come with a tradeoff - performance
Under 200 hp in either motor doesn’t make this Sonata feel very sporty
8 speed auto transmission
No AWD is available in the Sonata, an interesting choice
The cabin is quiet and much more refined than you would expect for a Hyundai 5 years ago

Honda Accord
This car has been winning journalist awards for literal decades
This is also the Accord’s highest trim with it’s Touring so it’s a fair fight
We at least it was until we talk engines - 2.0T 4 cylinder
This replaces the old N/A v6 and brings more torque and fuel economy [26 mpg combined]
We’ll start with power - 252 hp making if 72 ponies more powerful - and you can feel that
Power goes through a 10 speed box and also finds its way to only the front wheels
Honda’s Safety sense technology is a very comprehensive system
Blind spot monitor
Adaptive cruise
Collision mitigation
Lane departure with steering assist
Traffic sign recognition - HUD
Rear cross traffic alert
As far as convenience stuff you also get
ACP and AA, but not wireless
Wireless charging
Wifi subscription
Digital cluster

So the Sonata is all new for 2020 so in theory it should have better tech
And you’re right, let’s talk safety tech
Blind spot
Adaptive cruise, [but with stop and go]
Forward collision
Lane keep
Rear cross traffic
SO BY NOW WE”VE CAUGHT UP TO ALL THE STUFF THE HONDA HAS
HERE'S WHAT THE HONDA DOESNT HAVE
Driver attention warning
Rear occupant alert
Highway drive assist
Now other tech stuff in this Sonata
Bigger head unit touchscreen 10.5 inches with better displays
Digital Key
Wireless charging
Digital cluster
Color HUD
ACP and AA, but not wireless
SMART PARK is dope
64 color ambient lighting which I always love
Now when it comes to design and quality Hyundai has a stereotype they’re overcoming
Let’s start with the outside and most obvious thing...the sick headlights
The grille to me is a bit dopey
But there are really cool vents in the front bumper and to the side
Talk about these staggering wheels
Elegant running body lines and then again the back ¾ is really interesting - sharp cuts
Strange spoiler type cut that looks great
I love the color combo and body shape, proportions, really well done
Interior
The materials are really pretty good, almost no piano black
The leathers are soft, the seats are comfortable and have heating and cooling
The design, again, is much more elegant than you’re expecting and it’s not cluttered
I don’t usually like 4 spoke steering wheels, but this H pattern is luxurious
Pano roof and expANSIVE back seats
And one of my personal favorites, loop door handles
Really really impressed with what they did with this cabin here

Let’s look at the honda
The Accord is all front end, with the black grille and contrasting paint it matches personality
Unlike the swooping Hyundai, the Honda is more geometric
Rectangular headlights, grille, long hood
You can get some really muscular wheels on the Accord too
Subtle body line across the belt and then a gorgeous tapered roof - lots doing this
Honestly, I’d love to see this as a hatch like the audi A7, but really pretty silhouette
It looks fast from the rear ¾, but around back is where it falls apart for me a little
It’s just a little boring, same basic taillights as the Civic and the exhausts are very fake
Overall, this Accord looks much more sporting where the Sonata goes for a more lux look
Again matches personalities
On the inside it keeps the sporting feel with a 3 spoke steering wheel
Seats are very comfy and soft with heating and cooling as well
Rear seats are also nice and big, but no heating
Really things are close in these two and it’s more a matter of taste, the only place the Accord falls short is in the small sunroof

The Accord Touring is just over $36k while the Sonata Limited is $33,500.

Special thanks to my Patrons for their support! Would you have the Accord or Sonata?

That last side by side shot pretty much makes my choice.
That low, low, hood and low drag coefficient of the Hyundai make it a design win.
All the internal features of the Limited are going to keep it current and pleasing to own.
The Honda is fine and will please its fans but it's just not my favorite car company and I've never been tempted to buy one.

Accord is boring. I like Sonata much better. Come on People! These cars are just family sedan class. It's not like you will drive them with race pressure. I like Sonata's all new feature techs and futuristic design. + Hyundai's warranty is one of the best option.

Good review. Not sure why people are complaining the video is too long, I want detail in videos like this and that is what he gives. I currently have a 2013 Sonata Limited and I've had it paid off for awhile now and I'll be getting the 2020 Sonata Limited.

I test drove the new one at the dealership and I was very impressed by it. I know people complain about the grill, of which I did but when I saw it in person, it grew on me. I didn't get to test the Bose audio system in the car but I've heard it's pretty good. Seating was great as well, I'm a big guy at 6'2, 270lbs and I didn't have a problem being comfortable, which I didn't expect there to be any issue because my 2013 seats me well.

Honda makes great cars and so does Hyundai, never had a problem with my Sonata or my prior car, the Tiburon. The warranty, where else can you get that kind of coverage? The tech, warranty, seating and a lower price than the Honda. I almost forgot, the cooled seats. I'm always pretty warm and videos I've watched said Hyundai did the cool seats just right.

Can't wait to get this new one, but with this whole coronavirus going on, not sure when!

Accords do have full stop capability on the adaptive cruise control included with Honda Sensing.

Sonata is like someone you have a crush on and Accord is the one you marry.

Thank you for such a well-placed and excellent review! I will say the Sonata is very impressive in many regards, especially on the tech front. However, there is a reason the Accord is year in year out near the top of the mid-size hierarchy. The quality build, materials, roominess and driving dynamics are simply first rate. In touring trim the Accord grazes the boundaries of being an entry level luxury sports sedan. Thanks again for you great work!

I'd buy the Sonata for being a more complete package, and it's also future proof.

Yup. You can get the manual in the Sport Trim with the 2.0 turbo.

I originally was looking at Camry and Honda after hating my Altima CVT. I ended up getting the Sonata because of the tech inside, i won't feel i'll need a new car for a long time.

I pick the Sonata. More features for the money. It's 2020 and you mean to tell me the Honda Accord still don't have a panoramic roof? Even Toyota finally added that feature with the new Camry. I also noticed that you forgot to mention blindspot camera in the dash on the Sonata. A feature that Honda started in their cars. But Hyundai took it to another level. I do believe that the new Kia 2021 K5 will blow the Accord and Camry out the water. Especially the GT version with 290hp! Hyundai N-Line will have the same powertrain. Hyundai and Kia is killing it with the design and features for the money. All thanks to former Audi/VW Designers Peter Schryer and BMW, Albert Biermann.
