One of my high school friends, Carrie, had a "cool mom". Everyone loved her except me, she gave me the chills. She went with us to bars and clubs, to our parties, etc. She spoke to us about condoms once and it was 🤢. She used to start music parties of her own in their house, then she just sat on the couch and watched us dance and took our pictures, which for me was super creepy.
Now, this Carrie had a best friend Maggie. After a few years The Creepy Mom destroyed this friendship without any explanation to us. Maggie had no idea what is going on. Carrie wanted to talk to her but The Cool Mom said she can't. She wanted her daughter to be friends with another girl, more vulnerable and prone to manipulation. I remember Maggie was totally broken hearted.
Beware of cool moms that pretend to be kids. There is usually something wrong with them.

I distinctly remember a fight with my mom bc she wasn’t “cool” like my friends mom. She said I’m not supposed to be cool I’m supposed to be your mom. I still can’t thank her enough for that.

As a parent, this one REALLY bothered me. Wth is wrong with people. The fact that nobody sensed that something was wrong is just mind blowing. My God, this could be happening next door and noone would say a word. Truly frightening.

As horrific as it is, in an innocent scenario, using billy Joel as a boogey man is the funniest concept to me. Eat your vegetables or else billy Joel will blow up our house!!

I think the fact that she actively pretended to take phone calls with billy and explained that she was injected with some mind control drug, throws the DID diagnosis out the window for me. I think that she was definitely suffering with some mental illness but i think she was still responsible for her actions. It's very calculated to make literal children commit your crimes so that your hands stay clean.

What I find the most disturbing in this whole story is the absence of the parents of the kids involved. If my 12-13 yo was always at someone else's house, I would be over there too. Then again, I have never really trusted 'perfect' strangers with my kids. Still, I consider the parents of the kids to be partly responsible for what their kids did and what was done to them. Surely, the kids would have had some sort of behavioural changes that would have indicated something was off. I have raised five kids and when something is wrong, they show it even if they don't verbalise it. I don't believe for one moment that Marie had D.I.D. As you say, she was a manipulator and all of her actions would not tie into a person with split personalities. She would not have 'used' Billy before he 'took over'. Poor kids and poor Ricky. I wonder how they managed their lives after such traumatic experiences.

Clearly she did not have multiple personalities. So many criminals tried to use this defense during the 80's due to the book Sybil's influence both on the physiatric community and pop culture. A person with DID does not make an a elaborate plan to have the phone company call her house everyday at the same time to corroborate the sick story she has. She couldnt have done that, answers the calls and says “oh BILLY JOEL told me this” and still claim she was dissociated at the time. That defense is laughable at best, and absolutely offensive at its worse.
