August 1st is celebrated in Litochoro by Agia Solomoni, of Agios Dionysios. Long ago there were two stocks. They included residences for the monks and two small churches, Agia Solomoni and Agia Matrona. Of the entire building complex, only the church of Agia Solomoni is preserved today. This is the oldest building that exists in Litochoro. It was erected in 1504 in memory of the holy martyr Nikolaos of Vunainois and it remains unknown when and for what reason it was renamed the church of Agia Solomoni. In its original form, it was low, windowless, and discreetly lit by skylights in the roof. According to an old tradition inside the church, a secret school functioned during the difficult years of the Turkish occupation. The tradition is mainly confirmed by the fact that since the end of the 18th century there have been several Litochorites with knowledge of reading and writing and in addition with significant education. During the 18th and early 19th centuries, the Hidden School of Agia Solomoni was the first important event in the development of education in Litochoro. From the book of Athanasios Adamopoulos "Pages from the Old Litochoro".
