For all you chess nerds, that was the final position of Bobby Fischer vs Donald Byrne, widely regarded as one of the greatest chess games ever played. That was a very nice touch 👌 👏

Commonly used trope that it is, but you really have to give Mr Terrific credit here. Winning a chess game, winning a moral debate and being able to stand up to Superman simultaneously.

The way the game went was perfect, Clark's early checks reflect that there is potential, yet as the game progresses and Mr Terrific proves how short sighted Clark is the game reverses and now Clark is on the defensive in the game as well.

Actually....
Superman-"You're not going to help me are you?"
Mr. Terrific-"Honestly, I just did."

Superman: Let's get rid of guns and people will stop killing each other.
Joker, an intellectual: Guns are too quick. you can't savor all... the little emotions

What hits me the most in this scene is when Terrific talks about how smoking is killing people and families suffer from it, Superman just responds with "And?".

That tells me that Superman isn't really thinking about saving lives, he just wants to limit the power and violence other people can have.

So did they just give the conversation that Flash and Superman had in the comic to Mr Terrific?

Funny thing is, Marvel's "smartest man" Reed Richards DID help totalitarians and even devised a special prison to hold all his old friend indefinitely if they didn't fall into line! Gotta say, Mr. Terrific looks like the far better man by contrast.

Be it Flash (comics) or Terrific (show) this chess scene in the Injustice story is so good. It illustrates the core problem in the path/solution the Injusticeverse Superman has chosen. In the comics though it hits a bit different since when Flash drops those "then jail every smoker, jail those who drive overspeed etc." each of them is a checkmate, all happening in seconds (since they're playing AND debating super-fast) and Superman finds himself completely outmaneuvered and outplayed.

in the original story, it's actually the Flash that Superman is having this conversation with and they have it at superspeeds, minus the multiverse chat leading up to it (similar to that moment in Young Justice Season 2 where Flash and Impulse are talking at superspeeds). i heard Flash got killed off in this move version but i think the impact behind Superman having this conversation with Mr. Terrific. giving a lesser known DC character a moment to shine in their field

This brings back memories of Batman vs Justice Lord Batman.

I love this scene, each time Mr. Terrific puts Superman in check Superman's King is forced into a smaller and smaller space, illustrating what superman is doing, taking away peoples the freedoms(for there own good of course) until there is literally nothing they can do.

This is why Lex is smarter.
He would have said yes, and then sabotage the whole operation from within. Instead Mr T ended up in jail.

Man, I love Mr. Terrific, he really is the Third Smartest Person in the Word, maybe even the Multiverse.

This just made me a huge Mr Terrific fan. His breakdown of rights and slippery slope of tinkering with them is top shelf.

Felt this was so much more impactful with the Flash tbh, considering he’s a founding member of the Justice League and someone much closer to Clark. Still works with Mr Terrific but I think coming from a close personal friend like Barry would hit harder

mr. terrific points out to superman in a indirect masterful way that once you get rid of the guns, governments will start jailing people for their own safety till nobody can do anything without nanny government approving it. the summary of the scene makes superman look dictatorial and mr. terrific points out the flaw in supermans logic effectively.

I'd listen to them talk for hours about the logistics of policy. It's one of my favorite subjects.

"Getting rid of all guns to save civilians' lives" always has the implicit bit that reads "Except the guns our death squads will use to keep civilians suppressed and nicely dead if they ever think about complaining"
A thing that *always* happens in every single tyranny, and the real world ones are the best examples.

I love this scene as everytime Mr. Terrific point his view, he "check" Superman about his ideal. Showing Superman idea is flawed to begins with.
