The girls weren't disguised as men . They were made to shave their heads by their father(played by aamir khan) so that they don't get distracted by all the girly things (like styling and stuff). They were also put on a strict diet and had to pull through intense training . Although the movie is an adaptation of real life, it still has dramatic instances solely to sell the movie to Indian audiences(since Indian audiences react to emotions more than anything) . You should also react to behind the scenes of dangal (aamir khan's journey of losing all the weight he had gained for the movie - it also shows the training the actresses had to go through) it is really inspiring .

David, ' Slumdog Millionaire' is not an Indian movie, it is a Hollywood movie with the story set in India😀.And no, India does not have any laws restricting women wrestlers.. 'Dangal' became a huge hit in China also because I think they were able to relate to the story, as boys are preffered over girls in most asian countries.!

In the movie Girls are not hiding their identity. Their hairs are short because girls told their father that they can't do wrestling because of long hairs.And You Guys Should Watch This Movie It Is Really Very Good.

annyeonghaseyo ! yeah thats the guy from 3 idiots! and girls are allowed to wrestle in India! this is a very inspiring movie .. showing girl power in India! the reason their heads was shaven was bcz he wanted them to focus on their wrestling and less on their looks! If u liked 3 idiots u have to watch this movie too! for the lead actor Aamir Khan! hope u enjoy it! love from India

but guys...India is the world's largest democratic and secular country... so women are allowed to do anything they want.. infact many high official posts are held by women too in India...

You guys totally got it wrong... she doesn't hide her gender while Wrestling.. She takes part in Wrestling which was mostly dominated by woman in that area.. and she as a woman breaks the Stereotypee .. thats tge whole point of the movie

i don't want to give you any spoiler alert but no, the father did not want others to perceive his daughter as boys! there are other reasons why he cut their hair and you need to watch it to know why ; ) the place setting at first is at a village, and you know how village people tends to be more conservative and all but the second place setting when they are bigger is in a sport university and there are LOTS of female wrestlers! god, so hard to explain without giving out any spoilers. 🤧

The girls of their age would have been married off as 14 to 15 years of age or younger. This still happens in certain parts of India. Hence why this movie is SO inspiring.

Thanks for reviewing this! I watched this on Netflix this evening and all my family gathered around to watch. We were spellbound through the whole thing. It was the first time we'd all loved a movie at once in years. I wouldn't have known about it without this channel. Thank you.
