Intro: 00:00
Gear Suggestions: 00:50
Level 1: 04:39
Level 2: 07:50
Level 5: 16:35
Level 9: 24:30
Level 12: 28:43

UPDATE
- Turns out that if you multiclass into a life cleric you also get heavy. So follow the guide but once you would have wanted to pick up the Sorc level (earliest I'd recommend is 6) you should respec again and start as a sorc at level 1 for the con proficiency. This means you also don't need war-caster unless you really want to never ever fail your con saves! Everything else stays the same it is just a little bit more optimal for the type of character.

with Cleric of the life domain you get heavy armor even if you multiclass into it.
If you start Sorcerer you get Con saving throw, if you start Bard you get to choose skills freely.
Personally i started Bard, and added 1 cleric and 1 wizard (Wizard for spell learning from scrolls)

I used something similar to this on my Tav, but I played up the skill-monkey element and used it as the Party Leader. Githyanki gives Astral Knowledge, which I always used for Wisdom proficiencies. I took the Soldier background to avoid any "wasted" Wisdom skills, and Knowledge Domain cleric for two free INT-skill expertises (and picked Religion and Persuasion for starting skills). My first Bard feat was Actor to get expertise in Deception and Perform (so I didn't take those skills earlier). After that perk, you have proficiency or expertise in everything except Acrobatics. Second perk boosts CHA +2.

I also took a Wizard dip instead of Sorcerer, and wore the Warped Headband to allow Arcane spells to expand the swiss-army knife role for the build. I didn't need/want Heavy Armor, because I was also the lock-picker and sneaker for the party. Gloves of DEX, the Yaunti Armor, the Amulet of CON, and Phalor Aluve were other key equipment, although I swapped others in and out frequently. As you pick up the stat-boosting gear, you can respec to shift your attributes towards the things you don't have covered. This char got Auntie's hair (CHA), the Blood Potion (STR), and the Mirror of Loss (WIS). End-game: STR 17, DEX 8 (18), CON 8 (23), INT 8 (17), WIS 18, CHA 20.

This build is fun from a roleplaying perspective: I envision it as an agent of Vlaakith who uses Disguise Self and Friends to infiltrate the Sword Coast in opposition of the Absolute.

a few correction,
1) Bard don't have prepared spells, you can't change once you leveled, unlike cleric.
2) You don't need to start with cleric for heavy armor. Unlike fighter, you get heavy armor whenever you multiclass 1 lvl of cleric. and I think you get more proficiency starting with Bard.
3) If it's the bard class you SHOULD make it the face of the party.

I do a similar build concept with Shadowheart. But it's 6/6 Lore Bard/Life Cleric. For lore bard, you only need 2 spells, counterspell and haste. For the life cleric, you get 2 Perserve Life per short rest. The Reviving Hands (rare gloves) give bladeward on heal, there's a similar green gloves on act1. That make mass Healing words and Perserve Life also a group buffs. And at lv10, you can just use your hirling's Divine Invention for the heal aura hammer.

That support cleric/bard don't need to cast spell except Haste/Bless and Mass Healing/Perserve life. Use the spell slots for counterspell so get as high spell save as possible.

Bard spells:
Lv1) Thunderwave, Feather Fall, Faeire Fire, Sleep, Speak with Animals, Longstrider
Lv2) Detect Thought, See Invis
Lv3) Fear
Lore) Haste, Counterspell

Cleric Prepared Spells:
must/should have: Create Water, Sanctuary, Command, Masa Healing Word, Glyph of Warding
optional: Speak with Dead, Guiding Bolt, Spirtual Weapon, Healing word, Blind, Silence, Hold person, Spirit Guardians

this is my build exactly for shadowheart except I have her flying around around with Spirit Guardians and throwing out magic missile and heals as necessary. She has the blade ward gloves and bless ring. Remove hex, minor restoration, greater restoration, free action, silence when shit really hits the fan. My mc paladin usually has bless up.

This guide takes a good idea and somehow walks you through how to make it bad.

I think giving her the dex gloves which give her 18 dex and buy the shield which gives +3 initiative from the last light inn and in the late game the flaming fist armor once you get to the city which giver her additional initiative will be great.
As she is a buffer going 1st is so good.

The best thing in College of Lore, is the Cutting Words. I played more or less this build into level 10 and Cutting words really is amazing, but even then, I did respec after, because even though Bard things are nice, it's not really that good spec, unless you have long rests all than time. If your team or single player game tries to avoid constant long rests, better make a spec, where Bard does also other stuff than just cast spells. Like one that I really like, is War Domain War Caster Cleric 6 levels with Guardian Spirits and Level 6 Dual Wielding Swords Bard is amazing, and it still has all the caster spell slots and can do good enough healing. It is just doing crazy damage on top, either using swords or archery, or both. Level 4-5 Bard spells are really not that good. Magical Secret spells are fun, but they run out fast. If you like to long rest all than time, when why not make a Wizard or sorcerer and just nuke everything all than time? In our multiplayer game, with my level 10 Lore Bard I at least I turned out saving spells all than time, to save them for long rest, and it was really boring to just try to avoid using spells.

Nice vid mate, thank you.. Seems strange to go heavy so heavy into bard…. But I’m intrigued and will give it a go. 👍🏻

2 levels in life cleric to get heavy armor and preserve life
1 level in wizard to be able to scribe scrolls with int headband
1 level in sorc to disengage
8 levels in bard for lulz and also 2 ASI

Didn't test this one yet. What are your thoughts on it?

can bard do haste? i was thinking of 2 points in sorc so you can twin cast haste on to two characters and then mass healing word for bless + blade ward with the gloves/ring that give those on heals

My main custom character is like that, a half drow 1 lvl cleric of Elistrae / 5 lvl Bard. I was actually thinking about adding a sorcerer level or two to my character later on, I might do just that

Really cool idea, my sup at the moment is 4 levels in Cleric of Life (for heals), 4 levels in Sorcerer (to duplicate haste for example, hold person and in future hold monster as well), 4 levels in wizard ( with the inteligence head item, so i can learn and set a lot of good spells that i learn with scrols, like haste, hold monster and staff) and this way i can take every talent, with itens i can auto heal and buff the team resistences, its really cool as well

What is the reason that you got to choose subclass specialization at level 1 Sorcerer? Is that a Bardic trait?

this build makes no sense. why go high charisma when you only picked up cure wounds and healing word that scale off charisma (cure wounds being aleways prepared from life cleric anyway making this spell learned useless)? you arent the face of the party as you said so why not go higher wisdom than charisma? honestly bard doesnt give you anything past lvl 3 for cutting words really. most of the spells you took are cleric spells so why not go more into cleric after lvl3 bard. you also picked wizard spells with magical secrets, why not take a single wizard level and be able to scribe them anyway? if you wanted sorcerer levels why not start as a sorcerer for consitution save proficiency? yes you still get heavy armor from cleric since its a subclass feature. this build forces a bard to be a cleric, while clerics are much more flexible than bard as support casters, more spell choice and the ability to swap spells out between combats. i feel like this build could be better as a bard 3 for expertise and cutting words and bardic inspiration, cleric 8 since most of the spells you took are cleric spells and wizard 1 for the ability to scribe any support wizard spell you want. you can pick up the same spells you did up to lvl 3 bard except pick cure wounds and healing word from cleric, prepare the spells in cleric that you didnt take in bard and you are set. build is a good idea in theory but its not very optimized imo.
