I have been using Linux Mint as my only OS over the last few days, and here is what I think about it.

This great operating system just works out of the box. I used Ubuntu (since 2006) but switched to Mint when Ubuntu began using Unity. I have never returned, but I always have a couple of Windows machines in the house so that I can access the University work databases that do not allow Linux. My only disappointment is that they discontinued the 32 bit OS (19.3) because I have several old machines that don't support 64 bit OS's. I'm using 21.1 as I type this, and hope they do not do what Microsoft and Apple (and google) do - sell my data to third parties....

I originally used Cinnamon, but then I learnt that you can easily have multiple desktop environments installed and switch between them at start-up, so I downloaded KDE Plasma and after Linux Mint starts, at login there's a little button that switches you between desktop environments, so in this case Cinnamon and KDE Plasma
I love both environments equally ❤️

They also have a Debian version of Linux Mint called Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) which is based on Debian Stable instead of Ubuntu which the architecture is also based on

I've tried live sessions of LM on my laptops to give it a go. I really wanted to like it and I've used it in the past, but there's too many things that annoy me about it. I couldn't get an external monitor to work (which is a deal breaker), it froze a couple of times, not a fan of Files file manager (just some weird ways it works). LM has it's place and it's much better than when I first tried it (over 10 years ago).
I mainly tried it out again because I'm currently running Fedora and while I like it as a distro, I'm not too happy with Red Hats decisions of late. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of developers jump ship from supplying any big fixes to that project anymore.
