"burn everything I've written", *publishes the poems*

Her being straight wasn't confirmed either so I think it's just perspective. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Actually they've found that some of her poems and letters were about Susan in a really intimate and romantic way, they were erased and rewritten to be about men after her death

1) bisexuals exist, y'know. You can love more than one gender, it doesn't have to be all or nothing.

2) We can't accurately deduce the sexuality of historical figures, but we can make educated guesses based on what they've left behind.

That being said, it looks very much like she had a very close relationship with this other woman. And from a queer culture standpoint, this relationship in particular looks hella romantic!!

I'm nobody, who are you? Are you nobody too? Then there's a pair of us. Don't tell! They'd banish us, you know.

I mean she does have a letter in which she says she licks the envelopes her "close friend" to taste her lips. Below is the quote:
“i tore open your letter and licked the envelope’s seal for any lingering taste of you”

I care more about her poems than her sexuality

Edit :Thanks for the likes btw this is not a hate comment towards anyone being apart of the 🏳️‍🌈 community I am basically stating that her sexuality should not matter her poems are just beautiful and unique and her work that she put in these poems are just amazing 🤩 I liked her poems and her work way before this video came out we should respect one of another despite what sexuality they like we should support each other no matter what especially with all these other things happening in this 🌍 and I apologize for hurting anyone feelings or making them feel any type of way towards anything I said that may be offensive

Me over here...listens silently in bisexuality...also her poems matter more to me anyway...but bisexuals exist too and always have.

“This is my message to the world that never wrote to me
The simple news that Nature told with gentle majesty
Her message is committed to hands I cannot see
for love of her sweet countrymen
judge tenderly of me”

Emily’s letter to a man:

‘will you indeed come home next Saturday, and be my own again, and kiss me as you used to?… I hope for you so much, and feel so eager for you, feel that I cannot wait, feel that now I must have you — that the expectation once more to see your face again makes me feel hot and feverish, and my heart beats so fast — I go to sleep at night, and the first thing I know, I am sitting there wide awake, and clasping my hands tightly, and thinking of next Saturday…."

Just kidding actually to Susan

Here's a shocking fact: it doesn't matter.
Doesn't make her work better or worse.
Doesn't make her more or less of a person.
Why speculate on something that you cannot know and doesn't matter anyway?

She wasn't confirmed straight either though. People expect evidence, records, quotes and opinions to verify historical gayness, but when it comes to straightness, people don't expect anything. You're assumed straight by default. To make logical determinations, the two would need to be examined under the same constraints.

The lady is gone if you haven't found out by now you only have speculations.

I totally get the point people make that it doesn’t matter, and it’s true, it doesn’t in the grand scheme of things but for lgbtq people it matters a great deal to see someone extremely famous and renowned in the literature world potentially having the same feelings as they do. It’s part of lgbtq history 🤷🏻‍♀️

In high school I had to do an essay on her and that was the hardest report I have ever done. She was such a private person so there is very little info on her.

She was a beautiful soul, I pray that her spirit is alive in a beautiful place. 🙏

"I need you more and more, and the great world grows wider… every day you stay away — I miss my biggest heart; my own goes wandering round, and calls for Susie… Susie, forgive me Darling, for every word I say — my heart is full of you… yet when I seek to say to you something not for the world, words fail me…" - Emily Dickinson

Yeah... not gay at all...

If she didn't want anyone reading her poetry, they should've respected that. I'm kinda glad they didn't. But, still!!
