It's a damn shame this show got canceled because of the creator's nasty ass side quests she was getting into. There was a beautiful story to be told about growing up and its inevitability as well as the beauty that comes with it. I really liked how they dove into the consequences of not growing up AND not maturing. As those are two closely related themes I haven't really seen explored in any kids' media. As everyone ages but not everyone matures. This is much nicer than the normal message of "It sucks to grow up." Elmer's consequences are directly linked to not wanting to mature as well as age, as it's hinted that him losing himself is what caused his body to turn into a doll-like figure. Endless is just that...endless. There's no end and therefore there isn't any meaning in a long-term stay there. Whoever or whatever created it clearly designed it as an escape from reality, not a permanent stay to evade all issues and problems. Todd and Esther's horrified expression when Reggie, seeing firsthand what can (or god knows what else) happen should she stay in Endless like she plans and her still thinking it's a great idea says it all.
