Pinterest affiliate marketing is a great way to monetize and make money without having to sell your own product. Stealing content to promote your affiliate links can be however illegal. Doing so may violate the intellectual property rights of the content owner. Even when you are crediting someone else as part of the strategy you may still violating that content creators property rights. This video is going to breakdown this really bad advice and why you should not be following it on your own Pinterest accounts.

Thank you so much for creating this video! I was looking into videos on the subject and almost all of them tell you to use other people’s content. Which made me feel really uncomfortable about the whole thing. Thank you for making things clear

Good that you talk about intellectual property. Someone has been taking my pictures for their website to sell the same product. Trying to resolve this at the moment.

Should I delete pins that contains others content? Will it harm my account?

Is it unethical or illegal to use the photos that are from the site of the product being sold themselves?

So I have a question is it really stealing if your directing traffic to their YouTube or tic tok and is it infringement if your getting people traffic by telling the truth by getting paid for your service of providing traffic and income to these creators if no one is claiming it is theirs and they are getting monetary gain neither is it nefarious because anybody could do this with their own videos and technically it's providing a service like you said that is a public link witch means it can be shared I'm not trying to argue with you I'm trying to see both sides of it because if it was their legal we would hear about it in court if you're sticking to the terms of the actual video in the content you're just providing traffic getting paid for a percentage of that traffic without being hired just like selling movies out of a movie store all you have to do is get a buy-sell trade or barter license you can buy sell trade and barter anyting that isn't illegal in my eyes I don't see the problem with it I do see a problem with people thinking that their public information is private which is not which would mean that everything is property rights which would change everything so I'm having a problem understanding what you're saying all they are is creating another thumb tag which sends you to the original thumb tag and the original videos which is providing a service to the Creator by giving them more traffic which adds up to more money in their pocket we do live in a Republic which yeah some things are copyright which is creative content for a user of that platform you're not changing their content you're just directing traffic and you're changing they're sometag to your thumb tag which is created on Pinterest that link to their video and thumbtack which is just another way of sharing enticing that I don't see how that's stealing anything from anyone because the link automatically goes to the actual YouTube video which shows the original content in its entirety and you're not claiming that it's your video so how is that stealing I don't get it trying to figure this out because people have been doing this for years and not a single case that I know has been taken to court for it because it's not fact of the property and it's not stealing from the content creator it's kind of like selling something on eBay but directing the traffic to the product and of course you would have to pay for that but instead you're not paying for it people are directing it to you that's something that everybody would pay for in the real world if anyting it's marketing videos I'm getting paid a percentage very small percentage at that I don't believe in changing anyting not the content creator has done nor do I believe in Breaking the Law even if it's by accident but I don't believe this is a crime because honestly it doesn't change the video and it doesn't change anything the concrete Creator did anybody can make a thumb tag I don't see where the thumb tag being changed infringes on the anybody's rights by creating traffic to the original video now if it changed anything to the original video now I can see a problem or if it changed the thumb tag and the watermark to something else that would be infringing but if you kept everything the same just use the I'm tag and put writing on it you're not actually changing the thumbtack changing your post which is the same thing you do on Facebook when you post something that you share if you write any writing on that before you share it that's the very same thing you're not writing it on the thumb tag and you're not writing it on the video and by making the thumb tag and the post look like a video that's not being nefarious because it is a video most of these videos that I've seen it says that these people have watched them and they only show content they've watched which means you're only sharing the traffic and you're getting paid to generate traffic to that site just like Word of Mouth it's beyond me at how anybody could find this nefarious and honestly most YouTubers would pay for this very same marketing from a company

Hey Heather, I got your point. Using someone else's content for your own profit is wrong. However, if I'm running a theme page let's say for dogs or cats & I'm giving credits to the owner with (DM for removal) tag, would you say it's still wrong? I mean the point of a theme page or niche page is showing all the content regarding a particular topic. It's been there for ages on instagram & now on other platforms as well.

Thanks Heather, I've been watching several videos that are teaching one how to get free marketing strategies using Pinterest, Instagram and others. After running into your video, I thank you for pointing out all that of value.
Would it be possible for you to create a video that educates others the proper programs that would or have the tools and educational materials to build an on-line business? Just a thought.

It's a book she was promoting for the Self Improvement niche. I just watched that video about an hour ago...if she was saying to use Shopify to get a website it was the same person. I found her way of setting up to be interesting since I had never heard it before but that struck me as bizarre. Why not write a blog post? Super easy these days. I wonder if she is aware of that being wrong. To me it is obvious that if you have to remove a watermark then you are doing something shady. If someone turns that video in to Pinterest it will be super easy for them to find out which accounts are hers and shut her +$20k monthly income down. And really upsetting if you are a blue horns like me to be banned right out of the block. I can't imagine watching just one video or even one content creator to start a business, but I know people do it. I'm trying to think of a way to make this video go viral. Hmmmm.

Sorry the post I wrote was a little long but I did go into some key things and I didn't want it to seem like I was being argumentative I'm looking at it from both sides and this is what I was actually getting too asking for permission for something that you can share put on their website and you share with family members anyways by monetizing the same service people do for free is neither nefarious or infringement on the rights of the original content creator because technically you're not changing the content nor the intellectual property you're just providing a market stream to that content and providing a service now me personally I have not tried this but was looking Intuit I do see your point of view and I do see where you're coming from but I think where the difference is that you're trying to control the flow of information which should be completely free and the original purpose of the videos is intact not only is it intact it's providing a service of traffic to the intact content because all you're doing is minimizing the original thumbnail and the original link which is public I don't think the original link is considered intellectual property but I could be wrong I was going to actually look up the law on that that could go state-by-state or it's under federal law but as YouTubers they would be providing you a service I understand why you as a content creator doing all this work would be worried about what's happening with your content and for you to have control over the complete use of the content but remember there is a share tab and this video and all videos on this platform can be shared anywhere you can post your tab and anyone can write anything on that post but I also think it's providing a service and could be possibly a new marketing strategy for Content creators to hire their own marketing teams without actually paying them out of their own pocket and paying them through affiliate links using these other websites like this in this way which is why I would say this not only provides a service but also doesn't seem or look to be nefarious by providing a service and getting paid through that service

It would also help if you actually brought up the law backing your claim on digital content I understand you're not a lawyer I'm not a lawyer either but there's two sides to this argument and I think it would help if you actually linked your argument backing it without actual legal facts not just Pinterest rules and guidelines because sometimes rules don't actually override law and what is the law on this you have the right to air the law you just don't have the right to give legal advice sharing the law is not giving legal advice and I know that's kind of like misconstruing things sometimes and people like to get into their feelings instead of what's actual law but I don't see this as stealing or changing intellectual property it's marketing videos in generating traffic I could see if it change the video and if it change the thumbnail but in most of these videos thumbnails not been changed only the post has been changed and I've seen YouTube videos where they've taken a thumbnail and put a circle with a line through it over the other person's thumbnail and YouTube said it was completely legal and it wasn't changing intellectual property and they change the thumbnail and put their own writing over it how do people make t-shirts of Mickey Mouse all tatted up with gang rags and those people don't get sued see there's something that you're not telling us about this as well

So not 100% buying the content on this particular video. Up front, I agree it is stealing when you do not get permission from the original content creator on Tik Tok or Instagram. However, once you have contacted the content creator, and have their agreement. Even if it is a just a text message, with agreement to repost the video, in full or in part....then that is legally binding. This method of obtaining permission is what is promoted by multiple trainers. Also, once you have obtained permission, you have to remove the watermark, or else another platform will not accept the video. It is common sense you need permission. It is unfortunate you are focusing on a very narrow circumstance here, not helpful.
