GSFA 2019 | HSBC | PUTHRI

PUTHRI (meaning Daughters) is a Transformational programme driven by HSBC Corporate Social Responsibility Team, Chennai, India in Partnership with AVTAR Human Capital Trust.

Launched in May 2018, the programme aims to support young girls at the bottom of the socio - economic pyramid so they are able to rise to their fullest potential and contribute directly to the GDP of the country by transitioning out from the domestic labour economy and into the knowledge economy.

PUTHRI focusses on India’s daughters in age group 12-18 years, transforming their destinies by providing support in the form of mentors on their academic journey. HSBC have mentored over 150 girl students from 8th & 9th grade through the academic year 2018-19, driving a structured curriculum. HSBC led by example encouraging other corporates to support this NGO to reach even more girls. Thanks to HSBC, AVTAR has engaged other corporates and increased the number of cities participating in and around Tamil Nadu.

Started with one school, HSBC now supports 6 schools. PUTHRI impacts not just girls, but also their families and future generations. The transformational journey continues as we enrol more schools to support and a wider mentor base to contribute in 2019.
