Rubber Soul was pop music's game changer. It's my fave Beatle album but beats Revolver only just! I think this era (1966) was truly the best for the band, although Macca's contributions on the White Album are truly outstanding. In fact, his contributions on all albums are simply amazing.

What made the Beatles so special? They knew they were a great band, but they were still just a band. They never understood why so many people are crazy about them including myself. I like a lot of bands. I love a couple bands, but nothing comes within a gazillion miles of how I feel about the Beatles. Not only were they the soundtrack for most of my life, it was something deeper. What pulls you in on your music. I believe a lot has to do with constant motion. They never sat on I-IV-V with a vi tossed in. The amount of cord changes is exhausting to just look at. It’s not about crazy leads. It’s about artistic fills throughout the song and when the music isn’t in some kind of motion up or down with a melody during the chord changes, the vocals are either moving up or down. Sometimes they do it at the same time but the motion never stops. They are definitely more of a jazz influenced band than blues, musically. This songs never get boring. They just keep moving and pulling you in. Great lyrics? Absolutely. But I think it’s more about the constant melody movement either with vocals or instruments on top of an incredible amount of jazzy chord changes
