Why Armenia Wants to Join the European Union

With tensions growing between Armenia and Russia, the Armenian Prime Minister has expressed interest in applying to join the EU. So in this video, we'll explain whether this is likely or even possible and what this says about Russia's regional influence.

Do you know that I am an Armenian and I am in favor of joining Europe because you cannot imagine what Russia has done to us and not only Russia wants to see us as part of it, but Armenia has always fought for its independence. Russia's policy should be stopped.

Why not? It's safer than many EU member countries. Armenia is less corrupt than Hungry or Albania. The freedom of speech and press is protected. The economy is doing well despite all the obstacles. I don't understand all the passive aggressive comments comparing Armenia to African countries and Afghanistan. I think Armenia deserves to be a member country.

Many good points but press freedom is lacking? Dude Armenia ranks higher in press freedom index than Poland, Cyprus, Hungary and Slovenia, I guess the EU needs to catch up to Armenia on this one lol

The entry of Georgia and Armenia into the EU would bring the EU closer to the Asian market, which would reduce logistics costs slightly and also increase the power of the EURO currency.

If granted Candidate Satus, they will probably join with Georgia or after them as EU would want some connection with them first. Georgia at least has a sea connection like Cyprus.

I think providing Armenia with EU candidate status will help solve most of the issues mentioned. For starters it would signal that the EU is serious and Armenia could decouple faster from Russia, also it would provide the EU with leverage and Armenia with the incentive to carry out reforms at a faster pace.

Georgia and Armenia should enter the European Union together. Imagine how much anger that would generate in Moscow, Ankara and Baku.
And the European Union would get two new alphabets and a strong foothold in the Caucasus.
