Star Trek Prodigy saved by Amazon? Third season possible?

Big exclusive update!!

When Star Trek prodigy was cancelled it caused a fair bit of an uproar.. Paramount did it as a cost cutting exercise and hoped not too many Trekkies would be concerned.. they were wrong!

But now it looks like another company is stepping in to save the show and bring us even more Prodigy beyond season 2.

as someone who has been watching Star Trek since the original incarnation, am glad that finally somebody noticed how good Prodigy is, and how thoroughly it is produced in the same spirit as Ye Olde Trek!! this is great news. Afterthought: i wouldn't mind if Prodigy follows the same evolution as Rowlings Harry Potter series, in that as the characters age up, they're able to perceive the deeper complexities of life, so the tone of the books develop in parallel.

I thoroughly enjoyed S1 of PRO, yes they released the 20 eps sporadically, but I still loved it... We better get S2, S3 and so on.

All these series have always been on Paramount+ in the United States, but I take your point about partners showing it elsewhere.
It was certainly not my favorite, but I liked it - and very much loved the idea and the purpose behind it!

I came to Prodigy with trepidation as it was announced as a child-oriented Trek show, but I wholeheartedly agree with you that its soul was very much Star Trek. I really hope Amazon do pick it up and run with it.

Well it turns out here in the U.S. anyways that Netflix ended up picking up Prodigy seasons one and two and I couldn't be happier. OK, so it means I'm going to have to pay for a Netflix subscription but I'll gladly do that to be able to see more of Prodigy. And I'm with you, I like Prodigy more than Strange New Worlds as well. 😉

I watched it with my 10yo niece and I really liked it as much as my favourite trek series like ds9 and voyager, it might be aimed at kids but it is a very high quality show.

If it is saved and I hope it is anytime Star Trek is saved its a good thing no matter what streaming provider displays it. I liked the show!

Prodigy is my wife’s favorite new Trek and I must say I think it’s just great, real Trek. Fingers crossed for Prime picking it up. Jeff Bezoars is a huge Trek fan, so hopefully that will seal the deal.

I agree. It's a great, fun show! Even if it doesn't get picked up ( I seriously hope it does), they'll release season 2 as a hard copy. I just hope the storyline is resolved, just in case. 🖖😁🤘🇨🇦

Part of the reason why it might not get as much viewership as you might expect is that it is closely related to Voyager. I am a casual fan of Star Trek and I have attempted to watch Voyager multiple times and each time I just can't do it.

Never the less, this is exactly what Paramount should be backing. It's inexpensive to make and it is the sort of thing that brings in new fans. It might not be for me, but it paves the way for something more.

I will have to disagree with the idea that animation is seen as being for kids. Gen X, Y, Z, and gen Now I Know My ABCs have been around Anime and other more mature animated media.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Prodigy is the best of all of the new Trek. It is genuinely excellent ... kid's show or not.

prodigy and lower decks showed one thing (that is crystal clear to everyone who somewhat knows the anime-sphere): grown up people watch animated films and series. it might not be as main stream as real life films, but still.
and animated series are fairly low cost in production. for example, there is this whining about star trek academy, which should play post discovery (32nd century). why not make that animated? with all the VFX effects, discovery was already mostly animated and the VFX was expensive.

furthermore, I could imagine a section 31 series in animation. but since it is section 31, it can't be for children. there they could have the opportunity to touch topics that are essentially warcrimes in reality, they could touch current political developments and give it all the details they could never bring into a life action series.
