I am a 3D animation instructor, and I think you've done the best job I've seen illustrating the 12 principles (well...11 principles...can't wait for the last one).  Even easier to follow than Frank & Ollie's book.  Keep up the great work!

Awesome. I just decided to try drawing animation at home for fun to see my characters come to life, and this is the best video I've seen so far for how to animate.

Currently taking communications class and I’m doing a speech on the 12 principles of animation, before then I only knew a few of them so when I started working on my complete sentence outline and it was time to look up the rest of the principles i was extremely confused when learning about this one so I just wanted to thank you for the explanation

I hate to disagree Alan (because he’s a good animator) symmetrical lines on arms and legs is not necessarily bad for you, if you’re one of those artists. That’s just simplifiying your cartoon character

Out of all the 12 principles, I think this is the hardest one

This video series is amazing. Thank you so much for all those perfect explanations! I still have one question, though. Maybe it's a bit stupid, since I'm just getting into animation. Anyway: You illustrate all those principles by using rather lighthearted and funny examples. They fit perfectly for the sake of demonstration, however, they all look a lot like classic Disney/Pixar children's movie stuff (which is meanst as a compliment). However, to what extent do they apply to more serious formats aimed at adults? Is there a rule of thumb which principles apply less to those kinds of stories, and which are the most important to focus on? For instance, I don't imagine such an extent of exaggeration in the context of a dark and gritty storyworld, whereas staging is probably just as important as it is in a funny context.
