VFC's Food Tour of Crete takes us to Agarathos restaurant in the small village of Kaliviani, a splendid little place in the mountains past Kissamos on the way to the heavenly beach paradise of Balos.

Agarathos is also a small hotel with apartments for rent and would be a great getaway if you're looking to be off the beaten path of Kissamos, Chania and the other tourist meccas of Crete's north coast.

And you're pretty close to Balos, so that's a bonus!

I always enjoy stopping and dining in little areas in the backroads of Crete, some are just average (which is really good for greek food, tho) and some are really really good, if not great. I absolutely loved the food in Agarathos, very authentic Greek foods and the spices were on point in the dakas, meatballs - and that perfect baked fetta!

Loved it. Greek coffee, wine, food, raki, birds singing on the mountainside - ah yeah. This is what life is all about.
