There are a number of well made animated explanations about this battle. But this one is the most accurate and your explanation is the most correct one.

This video is brief, very accurate and puts forward a brilliant objective analysis of the events of the Marne.Thank you. This is the standard any content creator or channel shold aspire to reach.

Very well explained, thank you. And don't worry about the prononciation of Schlieffen: it is indeed [shleefen], with an e as in sleeve. (Just turn the s into sh, replace the v with f, and add an n. As you did most of the time.)

I see the Korean War (1950 to 53) has already been covered. That was marked by 'stalmate' in large portions reminiscent of WW1. Also the Japan-Russian War (1904 to 06) would make an interesting case study and lend perspective to 'military thinking' in this early part of the C20th?

It would be nice if these lectures were marked (entitled) chronologically somehow...?
- otherwise, great job - first time in my life I'm really interested in WW I

Just a small error or miscommunication: when Germany invaded Belgium, there wasn't British troops there aiding them just yet. The invasion was what brought Britian into the war in the first place. Belgium itself held off Germany and bought France some much needed time to prepare their troops which would have been the Battle of the Marne. Because of Belgium being able to drag out an anticipated quick invasion by Germany, it ruined the Schlieffen Plan.

Neglects to mention one goal of the Schlieffen Plan was to encircle Paris, and how this was prevented, then the 'ole between Germany's First and Second armies. Good use of the West Point maps.

Schlieffen...."Shleefen"
Sch in German = SH in English
ie in German = ee in English
EI in German = ie in English as in "pie"

I have a question and apologize in advance if it sounds ignorant: why didn't the Germans attack Paris when most of the French Army was focused on Alsace-Lorraine? It's the capital after all...

Not to be that guy but, the plan was Moltke's based on Schlieffen's original ideas. Moltke's plan was more than modestly different. It called for a sweep around Paris, keeping his right flank touching the coast until it swung south, not only taking Paris but encircling the French armies.
