This seems to be from a regular public ”Ur och skur” preeschool, focused on outdoor activities for learning. All preeschools in Sweden follows a curriculum, but we can apply it in different ways more or less. This preeschool then…”Ur och skur” - losely transl. ”Come rain come shine” spend most time outside no matter the weather. But the majority of preeschools WHO are not ”Ur och skur” still spend a lot of their day outside as well. Except for a couple of hours during lunch and resting time for the kids. Some preeschools let the smaller kids sleep outside in their prams, even in the winter. Of course with warm clothes and blankets during the winter. The monthly fee for having your child in preeschool is 3% of the caretakers income, and less if you’re a single caretaker. There are also coopetrative preeschools, usually owned by parents who hire educated teachers. Their monthly fees are about the same. Sometimes teachers get together and start preeschools as well. Not sure if their fees are the same though. And of course there are indoors activities as well.

I went to a preschool similar to this one when I was a kid 30 years ago, and it was magical! ☺️

so many childhood memories- I also let my own son be part of a preschool that had 80% outdoors learning/activities/excursion time. They went off in a bus every morning to different locations, in nature, museums, libraries, parks and so on!

I went to one of these. Broke my leg and had to use a wheelchair for a little while. 10 out of 10 experience. Actually it was quite fun even though I don't really like the outdoors. One of the teachers had a dog that she usually brought with her. A really nice little border terrier who was great with kids

This is from a so-called "I Ur och Skur" preschool. I have worked at one of them for 16 years, the latter two until now, as principal. The forest and nature are our best place! Like all preschools in Sweden, we work according to our curriculum for preschool. But we at I Ur och Skur work experience-based with nature as a base and with sustainability in the environment, economy and health. We want the children who attend us to become environmentally conscious adults who love to be outside and be in nature and take care of it. We also offer ski school and skating school for the children.

I thought these were just normal activities 😂. Never slept in a sleeping bag outside but for elementary school we had a daily forest walk first thing in the morning and once a week we spent an few hours in a nearby forest. Sometimes we had outdoor lessons but mostly we just enjoyed running around and playing 😊. I think it’s something every kid should experience!

This is normal in the Scandinavian countries. We also have "Skogsmulle" here in Sweden. He is a fictional figure . Skogsmulle teaches the children about the nature and to behave and show them to respect the nature.
Preschool and kindergarten is funded mainly from our taxes. The parents pay a monthly fee. Much cheaper than US and many other countries.

In my school we always had a few days that was spent entirely outside. Either in the woods or in the winter at the ski slope

8:15 In big cities like Stockholm there are several Ur och skur preschools to choose from, so absolutely they are available in bigger cities as well. Sweden is full of forrests and green spaces even in the cities. ❤️❤️❤️🇸🇪

Yeah this is pretty common. But to be clear these activties might happen a few times a week and for a few hours at the most. Ofcourse they have indoors activities aswell, but outdoors activities like these happen pretty much all over if you have easy access to it.

Edit. Commonly that is the case. Forgot to do a Google. There are all day outdoors aswell.

I had a summerjob at a kindergarten. Once a week we walked into the nearby forest for them to learn about berries and where you can walk and not.

It was awesome for my kids, nature is a fun playground. It was free, just an alternative where I live.

7:49 The younger children sleep in their prams outside and the older ones have their naps in their sleeping bags. The children knows which sleeping bag is theirs, they have assigned ones.❤❤❤🇸🇪

6:02 You choose your preferred profile of preschool. This kind is called ”Ur och skur” which is like shine or rain (skur means a quick rain fall, you know the kind that is over in five minutes but is quite heavy while it lasts). The preschools are substataded it Sweden and the fee is based on the parents income, so two children in the same preschool might cost different amounts depending on what the parents make, siblings are also cheaper than the first child in the family. The fees are not set to be expensive, the goal is to have every child in preschool, but it’s not mandatory. So Ur och skur is one company that provides preschools (Sweden have both county and private preschools but the fees are is the same and they compete for costumers, which put pressure on preschools and regular schools to provide a high standard of service. The parents ”vote with their feets” so to speak, if they are not happy they inroll their children in another preschool or school. Ur och skur has a really good reputation! You can choose the preschool or school that is closest to you or another one father away, it’s up to you, there’s no restrictions depending on where you live. Usually you can pick one outside of your county as well, then your county pays most of the fee to the county that the preschool or school is in.❤❤❤❤🇸🇪

Well, I do not think that it is neccessary for very young kids to really know how to make a fire BUT the knowledge is good because if they know that and why the logs sets on fire they also learn how to prevent a fire by adding water or soil on it. I also believe that it triggers their curiosity which leads to questions and further understanding. I can not say much about theese schools, my kids only went to kindergarten for a few hours/week for a year but they were outside as much as possible. Private we live in the countryside of northern Sweden and we were always outside, gardening or foraging, fishing in the river and so on. One of my kids was diagnosed with severe Aspberger and borderline as an adult but no one could see that when NN was young and the therapist at school said it was because NN had the best upbringing with close village friends and an calming outdoor life. My kids almost never got sick, just a couple of days with a runny noose and a little fever once a year, stomach ache maybe 3 times and they became alright after throwing up just a couple of times (at night...why always at night?)...and I am convinced that their outdoor upbringing gave them that strenght. They are now grown up, healty and have a healthy point of view towards nature and other humans.

There are both kindergartens that are nature only but they are outside all the time and also sleep in shelters during the day. But generally if you don't have the kids in the middle of the big city, they are out a lot both morning and afternoon. Snow in minus degrees like plus degrees. My wife works with children age 2-3 years old and there is no weather they can not be outside !
