The reason stores hire security guards is not to protect against theft, but to reduce the cost of insurance for that store.
Often the cost of hiring a security guard is lower than the amount saved by the reduction in insurance for hiring a security guard.

I worked for a real estate attorney. Paralegals and secretaries do ALL the work and get paid very little. The lawyer just signs the filled out forms. Nothing else. For that, he or she gets paid a couple hundred bucks a pop. Such a racket!

Security guards stop shoplifters by just being there. Mostly there job is just to be seen.

In the UK we have half the amount of Realtors. I.e. a realtor sells your house, you don't have one when you buy. A lawyer puts in an offer for you. It's much cheaper and a better system than the USA.

I work in security myself and I completely agree with David, the part I want to add though I think also the idea of a security guard might sway some people from actually committing a crime.

Funny: I went into a Tiffany's for the first time at an upscale mall in Nashville a few years ago. The store's security guard took my coat and bags for me and then brought me a nice cup of hot tea. It was more hospitality than intimidation. I loved the experience. Everyone was so kind and gracious, even though it was obvious I was only a lookie-loo. 😊

True. We sold our house to acquaintances. We negotiated with each other the terms, what we would do for them and them for us. They got their own loan officer and we all worked through the same title company. We all saved money.

There are places which by law require a security guard, such as in a hospital, or in a government building. Most of the time though, security guards are used to check the facility for breaches, security risks, and hazards. There are specific kinds of loss prevention that will extort you, and threaten you with law enforcement involvement when you're caught, and you end up paying sometimes 10 or 20 times what you stole in order to avoid the trouble, but for the most part security is just to keep everyone safe.

1. people use real estate agents to manage their properties. They are not just there to facilitate sales. So while the contents of the job may change, and the number of real estate agents may reduce since a lot of their workload can be automated, atm, they are necessary.

2. security guards at malls are present to provide a deterrent against anti-social or dangerous behaviour at the mall. They are not just there to catch a few shoplifters.

I can see the point of the video, but it feels like it just ended up being a swipe at real estate agents and security guards. Ironically, lawyers is also a job that is getting heavily automated.

Couldn't agree more with real estate agents being useless. I would even go further and say that they are worse than useless since they actually makes it extremely inconvenient to communicate the simplest messages, along with the possibility of them undermining the the decision of both buyer and seller, speaking from first hand experiences.

I can agree with the real estate agent, but dissagree with the other two. I like car dealerships for the used cars, they usually have a mechanic look at it and I would feel more confedent buying it. And for security gaurds, ppl be crazy.

I actually read somewhere that real estate agents will be phased out in a decade or so due to the internet.

Depending on the area, security guards I think are used to attract costumers in terms of saying "it's safe to shop here". For example, Meijer in detriot has security other locations don't. I doubt it's because they would otherwise have too much theft. It isn't a luxury or high cost items thing. But security guards at the doors make people, especially in nearby suburbs, feel safer shopping in Detroit.

I agree completely, realtors add no value to the process of selling/renting estate

The ad that showed up before this video on my YouTube was from the board of realtors

I don't understand why people think real estate agents are easily replaceable by online ads. It's been around for over a decade and not that many direct deals really

Most useless job in my opinion are fast food drive through order takers. First, because they say the same things so often, they speak quickly, mumble, and slur. Then, after they ask what you want "Burger, with cheese and mayo, no tomato", will go on with "Mayo or mustard?" and on and on. THEN when you finally get your order, half the time it's not as placed, and about a quarter of the time, they've over changed. Some placed (Jack-in-the-Box) have kiosks where you punch in what you want. The order is sometimes still wrong, but I don't have to argue about being over charged.

I work in Security and we do more than retail. I work in a high rise  office building. We also work in hospitals and factories and other places. I don't think       David Pakman  understands that or he would have said it in the video.

TDPS needs a security guard -- for the prestige!

Uh, no. That's not how the security industry works at all. Using Texas as an example a "company" doesn't usually pay for security guards because they aren't licensed as a security company. They may contract with a security company to provide security on their property, but at best a non-security company may hire an Asset Protection specialist. Asset Protection DOES provide some of the functions of a security guard, but they also manage the company's books for what is stolen, how much is stolen and how to prevent it from happening again. Using big box store like Wal-Mart, for example, a Security Guard patrols for the safety of the customers as a deterrent for theft, sexual assault, etc. OUTSIDE of the store. (Looking at you Greenspoint Mall.) A store in a shopping center is much the same. The Mall/Shopping Centre itself will have a contract and not the individual stores. Basically, one company is paying the salary of a set number of guards to cover multiple stores at once. If you go into a store with a security guard on hand in addition to that then the store probably sells some really expensive shit and it's a good chance those guards are off duty Police.

In the end, though yes, Real Estate agents are useless. Their only real use is that government assistance will usually be attached to a real estate company that is also working as a mortgage company. In addition, many times they themselves are the seller and may not even be listing all of their own properties or properties they've made agreements to sell on their/public websites.
