Homemade Metal Air Battery - Part 1

Показать описание
In Homemade Metal Air Battery - Part 1 video are shown three easy made metal air batteries,... Aluminium Air Battery, Iron Air Battery and Magnesium Air Battery. In construction I use simple materials and I make cells in same way for observing the voltage of each cell. I show the voltage of all three metal air batteries with alkaline electrolyte KOH and neutral electrolyte NaCl. The materials are easy to find in the store or on internet.

0:00 - 0:50 Intro
0:51 - 9:49 Aluminium Air Battery
9:50 - 12:13 Iron Air Battery
12:14 - 15:00 Magnseium Air Battery
15:01 - 16:16 End

Where I can find the materials:
Aluminium - aluminium foil in your kitchen. Aluminium powder on ebay (search: aluminium metal powder (around $20/250g))
Iron - in your garage
Magnesium - local chemical store or ebay (search: magnesium ribbon (around $4/25g))
Sodium Chloride - table salt
Potassium hydroxide or Sodium hydroxide - technical store
Activated carbon - pet store or internet (granulesor powder - aquarium filter)
Manganese dioxide - zinc carbon AAA batteries (for NaCl electrolyte) and zinc alkaline AAA batteries (for KOH electrolyte)
Graphite plate - ebay

Excelente y absolutamente extraordinario trabajo 👏👏 Un gran aporte que suma la posibilidad de reciclar pilas/baterías en desuso 💪
Muchas gracias 👍
Saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷👋

Ten plus years ago I set myself the challenge to invent simplest and best battery a child or anyone can build for almost no money. My answer was to take empty can of beans, take old metal sharpener (they are usually made of magnesium of Al-Mg alloy), tie wire to that through hole and twist tight (optional, seal exposed copper part of wire with glue), then fill can with half sand putting the sharpener about 2/3 down inside the sand. Then for cathode, jam a lot of steel wool on top of sand and seal on lid so that it compress the steel wool strongly. Make holes in the lid and pour in saturated salt solution. Rusting steel wool acts as air cathode with some catalytic properties. Make positive contact to case and negative wire through hole of lid.

Hey cayrex
I want to say you something
You are one of the genius and most underrated youtuber at same time
But please don't stop making videos
People like me love pure educational videos like this.

NIce work and very complete. Can you also show if and how you can regenerate the batteries i.e. charge them back? to bring eg the rust in case of the Fe battery back to Fe?

Hope to hear Winfried

nice video. thank you. how many amperes can you get from this device?

Lots of good videos. I like to watch your experiences. Even I don't like your language. The main meaning of the process itself👍🤝🤝🤝

Don't crush the activated carbon. Put the carbon inside the microwave oven 15 minutes it will spark but will be fine. At the end you will have nanotubes.

Consulta:
a) Los colectores/electrodos deben tener el mismo tamaño?
b) Es más eficiente 300gr de chapa de aluminio que una varilla/placa del mismo material y peso ?

Yes, its wonderful work, thanks for the video, but what about mA. all batteries I make can get voltage, but not all can get mA.

Thanks for this video also can you post a video on how to make an Iron Air Battery because the problem with the aluminum electrode is that it must be very pure about 99.9 and then it gets very expensive

Not able to connect Al air cells in series. If we put two cells in different compartments and connect negative of one to the positive of other. Isnt that enough to get series or it doesnt work like that ? 🤔

Thank you very much for sharing this video you got a good voltage for the Al-Air battery. Have you run the Al-Air for a long time and does the oxide layer build up and then the voltage would fall?

Is there any chance you measured the carbon loading on the steel plate you made for the Al battery?
