My demo time with a Trinnov Altitude 16 in my home theater is winding down. Here I present my opinion on the best features of the Trinnov. It's an incredibly powerful device that really would let you get the most out of a complex home theater space.

It's great to point out that the complexity of these higher end products don't always make the best solutions for certain rooms. It makes more sense to enjoy a Marantz or Onkyo, if you're pleased with the sound quality, you know how to get the best out of it, and it's more set and forget when it comes to set-up. I think your experience is extremely valuable since not many have been able to jump from a Denon/Marantz to an $18k processor for comparison purposes.

I would strongly consider a processor with dirac live bass control for your next AVR upgrade (audio control, JBL sdp-55, monoprice HTP-1, etc) The automated blending of multiple subs for the smoothest response across your listening area, phase matched crossover splicing from subs to mains (and ability to tweak the response to taste) is something that typically takes a pro calibrator 2 days to accomplish. In my opinion, a total game changer that is finally available in today's best processors.

Didn’t know you had a denon. Ew. I have a denon. Now that I have a avm90 I wish I would have just got a trinnov

To your point about taking advantage of what the Altitude can do to improve your system: one of the interesting feature is the per-speaker driver phase alignment. I haven't had the chance to hear it on the Trinnov, but I've had the opportunity to hear that done on a stereo speaker setup. While not a "wow I can't believe I lived without it" feature, there was a definite improvement in the stereo soundstage. Extrapolate that to all 15 speakers and the LFE, I can only imagine that it is pretty cool, and contributes to what the people in the owner thread on avsforum describe as the "bubble" of immersion it creates.

people think you didn't have the balls to stick with a $15k processor.
