Happiness Essentials
1.Something to do
2.Someone(something) to love.
3.Somethings to hope for.

As Griefcounselor for men, this resonates so much with me. Half of my time I work on getting men to invite emotions, feelings and sensations in their life, because frankly - blocking them can kill you. As I always say "grief doesn't kill you, but you can". To fully engage in life is not to drown in drama, but to grow through grief. Thank you again for such an eloquent explanation on this topic!

As a woman, in the past, I blocked my emotions...hardened my heart...now, at present, 75 yrs later my emotions are totally unblocked., thanks so much!

To watch these two minds intertwine is a joy to witness.

A "Stoic" - unemotional endurance of pain.
Quote which helps me a lot is "You don't have to have opinion."..such well said.

I loved the story about Xeno and the part that you added, " Once you lose Everything, you are Free to do Anything". Insightful guest you had on the show today Ryan, Much Gratitude for your Service and Stoicism Philosophy! Dude this is Food for the Soul!

RE: Wanting less

You can want in a patient way. One can say, “I want that guitar pedal!”, and not be sad that they don’t have it, but have a sort of underground bubbling excitement that they will get it in the future when the time is right. The key is to want patiently and appreciate that the thing or endeavor you desire is cool enough to inspire emotions from you, but not be solely driven by it or driven by it in a way that puts others or yourself down.

Arthur Brooks is one of the only reasons I buy the Atlantic. His writings grip me every time.

the end of this video is amazing, and everything from the start. It took me seeing this one to put together how full circle you opening a book store is. And extending a hand, to anyone that gets shipwrecked. super cool dude.

There's no specific way to be happy, it's all up to you, you can define your own happiness, never let other people define it for you

great meditation to start the day=] I love the idea of finding happiness through "purpose" and finding vitality in the mortality that we each face. I love the concepts of Faith, family, friends, and being of purpose to others as our core foundation or "cornerstone" of a healthy structure.

I love Ryan & Arthur together. Arthur's old podcast "Art of Happiness" was how I heard of Ryan Holiday, Marcus Aurelius, and Stoicism. 🙏🏽

This is one of the best and most consistent videos. It may have it all… talking with the dead and learning from them. We have it all

Been starting to watch and read Ryan's books now and philosophy and even buddism. Wanted to say thank you for posting these and the books you have written. I'm listing to Ego is the Enemy right now and feels like the right time. Everything on my life has crashed or crashing down and the clean slate comments are dead on. Would love to meet you one day

Just watched Arthur Brooks on Rich Roll (where he mentioned Ryan). That was the first time I had heard of him. That was a great talk - as was this. I've learned a lot from this channel. Thank you.
