Manic Street Preachers - The Everlasting

From the Album "This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours" (1998)

"The gap that grows between our lives
The gap our parents never had
Stop those thoughts control your mind
Replace the things that you despise
Oh you're old I hear you say
It doesn't mean that I don't care
I don't believe in it anymore
Pathetic acts for a worthless cause

In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine

But now unforgiven the everlasting
Everlasting

The world is full of refugees
They're just like you and just like me
But as people we have a choice
To end the void with all its force
So don't forget or don't pretend
It's all the same now in the end
It was set in a different life
Destroys my days and haunts my nights?

In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine

But now unforgiving the everlasting
Everlasting

In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine

Now unforgiving, the everlasting
Everlasting

But now unforgiving, the everlasting
Everlasting"

Hard to believe 23 years ago. So many evenings working late with this album on repeat. Still a masterpiece IMHO.

Bought this album in Newquay on holiday. Dad let me play in on the 6 hour drive home. He became a fan there and then. Rip

Αn, undeserved, moderate success in 1998. A masterpiece, in my opinion.

One of the best song of the 90's. Too deep for bein a success, too intense for bein forgotten, fantastic work from a so cool band

a toss up between this and Motorcycle Emptiness for my favourite Manics song, both very different but both beautiful in their own way.

What a perfect opening track to a sublime album. For me this is their best...

Is it only me or there others who think the guitar solo which start at 3:45 is the best guitar-piece which ever played and composed in a song?... so beautiful
