40 years later and this song still haunts me. Rutherfords guitar piece in part 2 brings tears to my eyes. Phil Collins....you can hear the yearning in his voice. A masterpiece that has surpassed the test of time.

Back in the day, I used to work out late at night in the basement ( all concrete and shadows, dull a nice finished basement haha). When this song would come on the tape, I’d do reps looking over my shoulder, or wherever. Gave me the I loved it. Sometimes I would chicken out and skip it - and then rewind back this track when I was safely upstairs.

While listening to this on a cassette long ago a friend explaining to another what the song is about:
"Burglar breaks into a house, house is haunted, ghosts capture the burglar and force to listen to their stories, eventually the burglar dies from lack of food and water and becomes another ghost haunting the house."

I had completely forgotten about this song and when they played it last night it was such a great walk down memory lane. It was my favorite on that album. Saw they play live that year or the next and went back with the same guy yesterday who introduced Genesis to me almost 40 years ago.

You have to admit the theme behind this song is brilliant. A burglar trapped in a house that’s haunted and as punishment the perpetrator has to spend the rest of his days listening to the ghosts who dwell in the house. Extremely creepy when you think about it. It reminds me of The Shining.
