I'm convinced toddlers are little drunk people

So the lesson is that she wanted to be given strawberries, not to be eating strawberries. She got to get strawberries twice!

Ah toddlers. Just old enough to start having coherent thoughts, not quite old enough to know what to do with that information

She didn't want sawberries.
She wanted to have a beef.

We, Parents, are just subjects in children’s science experiments of learning life… she’s learning about cause and effect, hahaha

Unpopular opinion: I do not miss toddler years of child rearing. Up to 18 months is pretty good. After age 5 is pretty good. Depending on your kid and their personality… 1.5-5 years old can make you desperately wish for the days of freedom you took for granted in your 20’s. But also… it makes you a far more patient and grateful person.

My favorite experience with the toddler grumpies: went in to gently wake her up after her nap, she sat up, *yelled and threw* her stuffed animal at me with *All* her might, then she stood up in her crib, screamed… I put on my angry face and backed out of the room. I opened the door a few inches 30 seconds later:

She’s still standing up, gripping the rails and says: *“….Baby’s having Problems!”* 😳😆🤣😄 poor little thing! I told her that it’s okay, but we don’t throw things, she nodded, rubbing her eyes. I asked if she’s ready to be picked up and she put her little arms up. We had a lovely afternoon. I’m remembering that forever though, so cute/odd, powerful expression of human emotions.

The logic of little children never ceases to amaze me. 🤣

I remember things like this when I was really young. It was upsetting... but it's like the toddler me didn't make the same logical connections that are obvious to adults and older children

When my son asks for stuff but cries when he gets it…like strawberries, I just set it off to the side or put it on a counter where he can see them. Minutes later he’ll calm down and tell me he’s ready for them.
Timing can be so crucial to some toddlers. Just let them figure it out.

And it's still a mystery to some why people don't want children xD very cute story though!

The way this loops just strikes me as a parent that is in a continuous sawberry nightmare.

My 3 yo today threw a Christmas card at me and said, you hold this. Then it went like this:
Me: ok but we don’t throw
3 yo: *snatches card from me* I hold it!
Me: Ok sweetie no taking things but ok you can hold it
3 yo: “no you hold it!” Completely distraught shoves it back in my hands
Can’t win sometimes

I know that one, usually the reason is that she wants them, but not the way we prepared them… well, at least with our little one.

Disappointment and anger are especially strong when you were looking forward to something you really wanted and you did get almost the thing you wanted. So… the reaction is kind of understandable if you take into account that emotions are still pretty harsh and uncontrollable for a toddler brain. So in that moment she is unable to communicate in a more constructive way, because everything is just way too much to deal with.

But I am sure you know all this, so this is more of a reminder for myself. ;-)

I admire your carefree attitude. Rather than you sounded annoyed or frustrated at this you seem OK with it. That’s an amazing attitude because toddlers are not toddlers forever which means you have to make the most of it when they are. Even if cleaning up strawberries twice isn’t the most pleasant thing you could be doing

I'm a nanny and once the food gets thrown, I take it away. Lol Not a judgement at all! I used to keep handing it back and telling the kids not to throw it. But I reached a point where that got old. So when they throw the food, I take the food. When they ask to have the food, I have them sit down somewhere and then I either put the food on the table or in their lap. They can watch cartoons while they eat if they want. But they need to stay seated and not throw the food. If food gets thrown again, then I take it away and we do something else. This might not work for everyone, but it's been working for me.
