This is one of those clips, available to watch on YT in under 2 minutes, that illustrates the wide divide between the sub and dub with Digimon. I won't pretend I didn't grow up with it, or that I got a lot out of Tamers, or that bringing back several of the original actors for Tri's dub didn't make me happy. But this clip illustrates that there was something powerful the original dub wasn't tapping into on the same level.
In the Japanese version, the word to sum up this scene, and this whole fight, is "perseverance". It's the Digimon equivalent of Captain America's "river of truth" speech. As those who watched this episode know, they don't even win. BlackWarGrey knocks their asses to the ground right after this, but the group still manages to stop him.
When someone who's in the wrong tells you to move, sometimes you just have to stand your ground and say "I won't." Like getting out of 2021 alive and toughing it out in 2022.
