Just one cause for concern in your overhaul. In future, you should give the freehub a good cleaning prior to the install of a new cassette. Before the new install, apply a thin layer of quality grease to the freehub and of course torque lockring to proper spec. Nice to see your full rejuvenation process!! Cheers Mate, Pjw

You should be going up in Durianrider’s estimation David. You’re giving love to a clapped out old Tarmac that doesn’t work any more 😂

Keep these rim brake bikes alive is a good done this stuff on an old 2010 Allez and it still gets ridden....albeit slowly as I'm getting on a I got some 28c tyres in it as well with ease = a tad more comfort.
Looking forward to how the sponsor's components

I really hope that steerer plug goes down far enough to withstand the crush from the stem bolts now it's been moved down much lower. If it's a small stubby steerer plug you are crushing the steerer below where there is structural support.

How do you know that those are real Shimano parts, I've seen a lot of fake (well made) Shimano parts on Ali Express
Also just comparing chain length is wrong, you replace a chain when it's stretched so why would you compare it if it's stretched, and yes it can be as much as a whole link!

This is good content, your channel is back on track.

I've done the same! Need to do all work yourself! I replaced the wheels with carbon ones from Hunt on sale and replaced the BB rest was just clean and maintenance! From the states $500- when I was done came in around $1, 200, rides close to my high dollar bike. Elbow grease!!!

What about the brakes? New cables? How well quickly does it stop?

I'm quite amazed, having shown the grim and dirt on the chainset, that you didn't dismantle and clean the front and rear derailleur, or perhaps you did off camera 🤔 (without pressing record). Ride safe.

As a die hard fixer upper, make do and mender, there is a point where you realise the cheapest thing to do is start a fresh. If
you ride year around then you have to keep on-top of everything or it becomes very expensive. A BB, a cassette, set of pads, chain suddenly your in for £400 with a still very secondhand bike. Or you run several bikes and one day wake up to them all being goosed. After 25 years I landed on 10 year old 29” steel XC MTB (PACE), with a compact chainring, 3 sets of wheels and tyres. So one bike to do everything badly.

Also...important point...dont mesaure new chains agaibst old worn chains that could be longer due to wear. Always lay them side by side but also count the libks to ensure the same number.

Great video David! There are some bargains to be found on eBay, I bought a Specialized Ruby this year that had been upgraded to Shimano Ultegra D12, with hydraulic disc brakes for just £500!

I found a 13 year old TT bike for 274, and fixed it up with new arm rests and a saddle, still under $500. Will it be as fast as a 10k tt bike? Now way, but will it get my body into the same position and allow me to compete/enjoy triathlons more for a non-crazy price, Yes.

Is the chain sticking to the chainring or whats going on. I noticed it in the building phase, also in the outro... Maybe need to adjust the fd?

This bike is better than anything you have tested in 5 yrs, that bike as is with just a wheel upgrade in the hands of Pogi will still win

I would never have guessed the bb unscrews counter clockwise on the drive side.

From Columbia to Cotswolds, that is a very fast bike indeed.
