The return current is 'dragged along' through Faraday's secomd law of induction; it induces a voltage wavelet in the ground plane directly under the current front travelling down the trace. Glad you are doing this video. I am shocked at how many companies are getting this wrong today. I have a 50 page presentation of layout errors I have seen in production.

This is great information. One point I want to add is that this fact is more crucial when engineers design PCBs with split Power planes (often required for digital ICs).

brilliant. so the loop area that you calculated the inductance is between the forward path and return path? it is not just the path(wire)?

I dont believe this is true. Whats the point of ground plane if high freq current will not use the ground plane.
