Get Gmail Message Id via Google Apps Script

Recently, a mate asked at Google Cloud Community if there is a way to get Gmail message Id in the new Gmail so he can use it in this Google Apps Script.

Works, but, the message ID for the same email is different the next day, and is different on different devices, so it is not useful for anything. I think it's some kind of random internal identifier that is not useful for anything? Same problem with the Message-ID header too - it keeps changing after being sent...
