Who Was Sir Radzig Kobyla - Kingdom Come Deliverance History

Sir Radzig Kobyla was Lord of Skalitz and the trustworthy Hetman of King Wenceslas IV of Bohemia. He is a skilled and well respected diplomat, capable of handling himself in a fight but preferring to reason with his opponents. He takes a special interest in Henry after his parents are killed, promoting him to his personal service - an unusual honour, for the son of a blacksmith.

Racek (in KCD Radzig) Kobyla was a Bohemian yeoman, the Royal Hetman of Wenceslas IV and, between 1410 and 1415, Burgrave of Vyšehrad. In 1403 he resided at the castle in Silber Skalitz (Stříbrná Skalice) where he oversaw the mining of silver. The king was known for his generosity to lower nobles who received high titles for their loyalty. Racek Kobyla was apparently one of these and probably the king's friend.

In 1403 Skalitz was besieged and burned to the ground by King Sigismund and his Cuman army. For his service and loyalty King Wenceslas IV permitted Racek to build his own castle at Veselí nad Sázavou. Standing on this site today is Chateau Komorní Hrádek.

He was killed in 1416 in a tavern in Kutná Hora by a mob of miners, incited by preachers a year after the burning of Jan Hus. "They seized them in the inn where they were staying, cut their bodies into pieces and threw them out onto the street, where the mob vigorously stomped on their remains and then went in merry song to the home of the preacher to be praised for the act they had been encouraged to commit.“ This occurred when Racek was there to collect taxes for the king, which is odd because six years earlier he had apparently been a robber knight and soldiers had been dispatched against him as a scourge of the land. Sources are not clear as to why he was later rehabilitated for "services to the king".

Medieval Historian here: He wasn't a Robber Baron, he was conducting a guerilla campaign against the Rosenberg family in Wenceslaus's name, it was the Rosenberg's who called him a Robber Baron. The Rosenberg family openly supported King Sigismund and opposed King Wenceslaus. For this campaign Racek was appointed burgrave of Vyšehrad by King Wenceslaus, for loyal service to the King in 1412. The confusion comes from the fact that the Rosenberg's were a very wealthy and powerful family and therefore had the ability to have books and records made that contradicted Wenceslaus and called Racek a Robber Baron.

Holy shit, the fact that Johannes Hus was only mentioned as a silly side character worth no more but a whisper ends up playing such a pivotal (and lethal) role in the demise of our father, sir Radzig Kobyla, is insane! Wow, our world sure has some deep lore, ha ha ha. Another reason why it's so amazing that more and more historical games are being made nowadays.

For those who play Crusader Kings games, basically this guy was the second lowest on the landholding totem pole, equivalent to a baron; So a noble you'd assign to look after a castle holding within a county. The character you play as? Well his family was basically the occupants who were in the blacksmith building slot of that castle building. So, just a reference for scale, you play as a lowborn who has a minor title, so you're not a commoner, or a peasant, just a lowborn in the court of nobles, which is why Henry has such autonomy, he was part of Sir Radzig's retinue, he is basically equal in rank to those castle guards, but lower in rank to knights while being higher in rank to a peasant or serf, like other educated lowborns.

This was nice to watch! I obsoletely loved the character in KCD, they actually made him feel like a true Lord, he was wise, brave, and inspired power. His answers to Henry's questions were always calm and calculated. He didn't seem like a generic NPC but he rather gave you a real feeling of lordship, authority and command, but also compassion and understanding towards the character.

Racek Kobyla is a really strange name. Racek means Seagull and Kobyla means Mare.
The town of Kutná Hora (Where he was killed) is Kuttenberg.
I didn't recognize much of the other names or towns mentioned though.

If you knew this, I apologize for wasting your time. And if anyone else reading this is Czech, feel free to correct me.

God be with you.

Just got drunk with Parish Priest Godwin on my Second playthrough and the fact that Jan Hus was the reason Radzig lost his life is just absolutely mind blowing to me.

I dont know why i had never related the "HUsssite wars" directly with the name of Jan Hus. It seems so obvious now, HUS, HUSsite. Great video!

I really hope if they continue the story we didn't possibly see spoilers with Sir Radzig's end. but you know they will put in KCD 2, IF they did infact continue the story or if they decide to go a different route with KCD2 if it happens at all

Radzig was definitely my favorite character in the game (Hans being the second). I wish there will be KCD2 with story continuation, but on the other hand, I really hope the game doesn't follow Radzig's story too far (or too close). I mean his death. I can't see my man dying, c'mon... Let the story end with him and his 'new' son getting their revenge and living happily ever after lol.

Radzig gets called "your grace" by both hanush and divish if i am not wrong. Also in the game there Is a message in the codex Wich says that radzig didn't become a robber Baron, but he was called so by the enemies of the king

Royal Headman, or else Voyevoda - a word and a title, that is present in pretty much every Slavic language, that has preserved the same meaning more or less. That is "the one who shows the way for warriors/leads warriors", basically like a supreme general, second only to the monarch
