Nicolas Henry travels around India to capture the history and the legends of this fascinating country. This time, he’s in Bhinai, a village at the foot of the Aravalli Mountains. He meets the Royal Family. Jahnvi is the grandmother of the family, and explains the curse that exists on her family: because of the divinity Sati, all men die between 45 and 50 years old since 5 generations. But the malediction is now broken, and her son and grandson are safe. Nicolas Henry will photograph this family considering their history, traditions and beliefs.

Extract from the documentary: “Let me capture your world – The Maharajas”
Direction: Sibylle d’Orgeval
Production: ZED for Voyage

Just a single photograph but captured and told the story of hundreds of years. Beautiful.
One of the strongest photographs that I've ever come across.

The 'words written in Arabic' at 6.24 are actually a Hindustani/Urdu inscription (written in Perso-Arabic script). It reads : yah mahal Ilahi Bakhsh kareegar ney tayyar kiaa samat (samvat) 1941 ( trans.: this palace was made by the mason Ilahi Bakhsh in the year 1884 CE)

A collage of a family, their personalities, their story. Queen Mother is so beautiful. Great picture.

What an eerie photo. And that I mean as a compliment. When a photograph speaks to you, it's an example of a photography done perfectly. Social media's literally exploited the saying, every picture has a story.

Such are the photos that actually have a story and very well tells the story to any viewer.

I wonder how insignificant these royalties have become post independence but their stature is not at all reduced amongst the localites and the generosity with which the royal families have shaped their livelihoods is remarkable. Thank you for documenting a forgotten gem of India, a family in which history resonates and glorious past prevails.

It's so impressive how a photograph tells the whole story of the Royal Family.. This is what's called a life in a photograph. A photo that tells many tales.

The world and all its cultures are simply too fascinating to describe. I'm truly sorry I was born at a time when the Internet was not in the world. I was online from the start, but we didn't have the vast diversity we have now...and now, I'm too ill and too poor to travel to all the glorious places and cultures I watch and read about. Thank you, Slice, for bringing this into my life.

It’s sad that such a historical home doesn’t get all the proper care and attention it should receive
