In this video, we talk about the general formula for squaring a binomial. We can use this formula to get a quick solution when we see a binomial multiplication problem of this nature.

Multiplication is commutative and associative. This means that the order / grouping doesn't matter when we multiply. Both of those: 2(xy) and 2xy are the same. I could also write this as x * 2 * y, or y *2 *x. Although conventionally we write the number first, followed by the variable(s). Just remember, if you just have multiplication involved, it's always going to be the same no matter what order or grouping.

I tried to do the last problem in the standard way: so would (r - 1)(r -1) be written as r^2 -1r -1r + 1? Thanks

your example is z + 9 is it ok not to put close parenthesis on the z squared, x9 and at the 9squared?

so, if you have to multiply x by y before you multiply the answer by 2 wouldnt it be 2(xy) not 2x y?
