Recently, climate change impact litigation has emerged as a way for stakeholders affected by the effects of greenhouse gas emissions to pursue redress. Scientists can help advocates build strong legal cases, however due to the novelty of this strategy and the challenges of incorporating scientific data in a legal setting, much care must be exercised in translating between the scientific and legal realms. This dialogue between scientific experts and legal advocates describes the challenges and lessons that have been learned so far in this new interdisciplinary setting, and discusses next steps as scientists and advocates move forward in addressing climate harms.
