Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau speaks with reporters at Rideau Hall in Ottawa after visiting Governor General Mary Simon to seek the dissolution of Parliament and the launch of a general election. Voters will go to the polls on September 20. In his remarks, he also confirms that Canada has temporarily shut down its embassy in Kabul and Canadian diplomatic personnel are returning from Afghanistan.
