Hey it’s Raj from 3CB.
Bayern Munich & German National goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had been dealing with persistent mild meniscus irritation in his right knee that he and Bayern’s physio & fitness team had managed effectively.
However, that irritation recently flared up and Neuer underwent surgery on the right knee and will reportedly miss 4-6 weeks according to Bild.
Based on that timeline, this is likely a “partial meniscectomy” which trims out the irritated piece of tissue.
Outcomes are typically quite good in the short & medium-term but there can be some knock-on effects when this surgery is performed on the lateral (outer) meniscus due to certain biomechanical properties specific to that side.
However, that’s not a variable we know but Neuer’s in great hands with arguably the best medical, physio, and fitness staffs in club football.
I’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
