Covering 1000 miles in the new 2025 Cupra Formentor E-Hybrid, the stylish plug-in hybrid SUV that aims to strike the perfect balance between performance, efficiency and practicality 👏
In this video, we dive deep into the Formentor’s hybrid functionality, powered by a 25kWh battery delivering around 50 miles of electric-only range in winter conditions 🥶
It has three hybrid modes, including electric-only for short commutes allowing for this FWD SUV to make me feel quite guilty when gazing at the MPG meter at the end of a short trip 😆
However, even though the performance and the new design updates impress, I find one thing missing...a feature that could make this hybrid even more versatile!

Just started watching you car reviews lately as I’m looking at Cupras. Getting my 265hp Terramar demo model next Monday! Have to say your reviews are unique in the sense they have a liveliness to them. The editing flows really well and keeps pace with your speedy explanations. Feels like it’s getting to the point!

I’ve always felt that SEAT has made sportier and more stylish cars compared to the rest of the VW family, and I think it’s fantastic that they’ve branched out with the Cupra brand—the designs are truly impressive. By the way, how was your trip to Disneyland?

Great review! Coming from several Audi’s I was worried I might come to regret moving to the new Formentor but so far I’m loving it. Gives me that same smile every time I drive!

Agree the engine recharging feature being removed is annoying but seems VW are going to do this across their hybrid range now :-( The other annoying thing for me is the missing schedule feature for charging especially when you want it to start later overnight to get the cheaper tariffs! Hoping that will arrive with a software update though asap…

Nice 👌 I test drove the 2Ltr and the 1.5Ltr…no comparison had to be the 2Ltr but running costs are bit too heavy…..should perhaps look at the Phev

I live in snowy part of Austria. Shame you can’t get the e-hybrid in AWD! Would be straight down to local dealership.

I am pretty sure that this feature (re-charging the battery using the engine) is available across all VW Brands, I have the felling that's hidden in "Charging" section and not battery manager., even though, does not make sense to have it there. It is going to be really weird if it is not possible. Anyone with any if it is possible and how if yes? Or may be, if you put recuperation to higher mode, may be there will be the possibility to charge using the engine as well?
I want this one, really like it, really thinking of buying it... Haven't drive PHEV before, only EV (Skoda Enyaq) and i really like the idea of PHEV, mainly because i have free charger at work, so it is really beneficial for me long term, mainly because on a long trips I wont use the battery that much anyway, but I have lots of trips around (short trips), which usually on my BiTDi 176kW 2.0L Tiguan are like 10-16L/100km, and that battery will be also game changer for me.

I was wondering, when you have it on 50% example and stops using it, does it somehow automatically charges it using recuperation or its only running on petrol and nothing happens. Let's be honest, when you plan trip 250km, you won't bother keeping track on the battery and thinking all of the time how to re-charge it using the engine... rather driving on hybrid mode and keep the battery for the city where you actually benefit using the battery.
I wonder if there's some kind of smart "planning" where I plan trip, lets say 300km, and I want the car to decide where and how much, and how the battery and the engine will be used during the drive, so it can be as much as optimized..

Great review mate. It should allow engine recharge of the battery to full. That does let it down for me.

How does this compare to the Terramar phev .?

Yes Tim. The panoramic roof and front seats did it for me. Nice looking Cupar, sporty looks. But prefer the Audi / BMW.

Yeah I heard they took battery recharge feature out of the 8.5 gte and the formentor which is a shame. Apparently just to do with efficiency and charging the battery with the engine wasn’t efficient compared to plugging it in but it’s annoying if you want to put your foot down and get the most out of the boost feature

Great review. Really like this car & I'm seriously considering getting one next year. What mpg on average were you achieving with it please? Never had a phev before does it charge relatively quickly?

That grill is about as aggressive as a Nissan micra, nowhere near as aggressive as the last model, but everything else is nice,

Charging a PHEV by it's combustion engine is in my opinion absolutely stupid. This doesn't make sense. Im wasting a lot of fuel just to get a poor range bonus.
