1. Where is Mesopotamia?
Ans. Mesopotamia is in the republic of Iraq. It is situated between two world famous rivers;
Euphrates and Tigris. The ancient Mesopotamian civilization also flourished in this region.


2. For which reason Mesopotamian river is well known?
Ans. It is well known for its development of city life, rich literature, and mathematics


3. When and where did archaeological work begin in Mesopotamia first of all?
Ans. First of all, archaeological work began in Mesopotamia in 1840 at the given sites.

4. What is the meaning of the word ‘Mesopotamia’?
Ans. The word ‘Mesopotamia’ is derived from two Greek words ‘Mesos’ and ‘Potamos’. The word ‘Mesos’ means the middle and ‘Potamas’ means river. Hence, the land lying or situated between
two rivers (Tigris and Euphrates) is called Mesopotamia

5.Different Names used for the same civilization:
1. Mesopotamian civilization - The name Mesopotamia is derived from the Greek
words mesos, meaning middle, and Potamos, meaning river. Mesopotamia means the
land between the (Euphrates and the Tigris) rivers.

2. Sumerian Civilisation- The first known language of Mesopotamia was Sumerian.

That is why this civilization is otherwise called as Sumerian Civilisation

3. Babylonian Civilisation- After 2000 BCE, when Babylon became an important city
of this civilization it is called as Babylonian Civilisation.

4. Akkadian Civilisation -Around 2400 BCE when Akkadian speakers arrived and
established their rule in southern part of Mesopotamia it was called as Akkadian
civilisation.

5. Assyrians Civilisation - when Assyrians speakers arrived and established their
rule in southern part of Mesopotamia it was called as Assyrians civilisation

Q6What is the meaning of Cuneiform?
Ans. The word ‘Cuneiform’ is derived from two Latin words. These words are ‘Cuneus’ meaning
‘wedge’ and ‘forma’ meaning ‘Shape’. Thus, the wedge shaped symbols which represent the syllable and sound of a word is called cuneiform.


Q7What did Mesopotamian tablets contain? When were these tablets written?
Ans. The Mesopotamian tablets contained only symbols and numbers. These tablets contained the
signs/symbols of fish, bread, leaves and were written around 3200 BCE.

Q8Which factors suggest that Ur was an unplanned city?
Ans. Ur was an unplanned city because excavation here reveals that people used to throw domestic garbage in the street.
• As a result of this, the level of the streets began to increase. Holders had to raise the level
of their house for proper arrangement of light inside their rooms.
• It was made possible through doors, rather than windows.
• Several superstitious beliefs were also prevalent among Ur people regarding their houses
under consideration. For example, they raised threshold of a house that brought
prosperity.
• They believed that the first door that did not open towards another house was good and
praiseworthy.
• In case, the door opened outward, it is believed that their strained relations between the
husband and the wife residing in it.

Q9Which was the famous epic of Sumerian literature?
Ans. The famous epic of Sumerian literature was ‘Gilgamesh‘. It also occupies a unique place in the
world of literature.

Ans. ‘Gilgamesh’ was composed during 2000 BCE in 12 tablets. It was written about Uruk ruler

Didi japnese language sikh rha hu kuch samay se coaching bhi jata hu usme 46 letters hiragana ke 46 katakana ke hote hai and 2000+ chineese letters (Kanji) hoti hai....
