Pioneering talk show host Phil Donahue dies at 88

He was the man who changed daytime television. Phil Donahue brought a pioneering brand of TV in which he incorporated the audience into his talk show. Donahue's show, which ran for 29 years, dealt with serious subjects and set the stage for other talk shows, most prominently The Oprah Winfrey Show. NBC News' Anne Thompson reports.

Very sad. He was my favorite to watch back in the day. He told the truth about US Wars and was fired.

You conveniently fail to mention that he had the highest rated show on MSNBC, when you fired him for rightly opposing the war in Iraq.

I remember watching his early talk shows before our family moved out of Dayton to another state. When trash talk shows came on the air in the 90’s, it took much of Donahue’s audience away from him due to the sensationalism coming from trash talk TV.
