Learn how to make a cool floating static flyer out of simple household materials in this awesome live experiment video hosted by Huw James.

Using only a bin bag, a pair of scissors, a balloon and the magic of static electricity you can make your own levitating craft and fly it around the house!

Simply take a bin bag, cut it off near the top and your left with a hoop shaped piece of plastic. Next, inflate your balloon and imbue it with a static charge. Yes, rub it on your t-shirt! Now do the same with your hoop shaped plastic floater.

Once you have them both charged up, it's time for lift off. Invite your friends round and have dogfights, stage an alien invasion of the living room, whatever!

Our resident science demo thrill-seekers will give the YouTube audience their big science treat each week with an experiment where you can find out how to make food dance, power a light bulb with household objects and create mega smoke rings!

Proof that James May keeps the all the other scientist in his dungeon.
And he even reads to them at night.

It facilitates better communication with other herd or pack members or rivals.
It's a result of evolution, superior communication ultimately aids in the survival of the individual, increasing its chances to spawn offspring who hopefully carry the same traits in their genetic makeup.

In the case of dogs there's also the matter of preferential breeding, we humans have bred certain dogs to communicate in ways that we prefer, exorbitant tailwagging is one such trait.

Oh my god! I can impersonate Jesus! All I need is a hovering hoop above my head!

nah, you still need to stabilize the ring by moving the balloon accordingly. its like balancing in slow motion. having a ring just makes it easier, but with enough charge you could totally do this with a feather, or to use your example, a small square.

because of the shape of the static electricity field.
as an example, a small square of plastic would simply slip off the static field, much like a marble rolls down hill.

Everyone is in aww about his experiment. But noones paying attention to the 100 year old corpse in the corner...What a nice place to film in.

I'll willingly stay in that dungeon if it means James May will read to me at night.

If you rub it, aren't you stripping electrons off of the balloon and plastic ring to make them both POSITIVE?
