2022 Specialized Turbo Levo Review | Alex’s #1 Bike Is a $15k eMTB

This video contains product placement for Freewheel. The Specialized 2022 S-Works Turbo Levo electric mountain bike has impressed BikeRadar's technical editor Alex Evans so much, he has declared it the best bike he's ever ridden. Ever.

We know, that’s a bold claim because working at BikeRadar Alex gets to ride and test a lot of
different bikes. Some are good, some less so, but it’s very unusual to find one that is truly exceptional in every way.

Here’s a few key facts on this incredible bike before you hear Alex's full review.

Along with its ludicrous £13,000 or $15,000 asking price, it sports a huge seven hundred watt hour on-board battery. Plus an impressive ninety Newton meter peak torque and five hundred and sixty five Watt peak power. This is supplied by Specialized’s custom-developed Brose motor.

It has six potential geometry settings, each tuning the chassis to different riding styles and
terrain types. It’s also built around a mullet wheel setup, where the front wheel is 29in and the rear 27.5in.

Do you find it crazy Alex loves an e-bike this much? Or do you think Alex has a point? As always, let us know in the comments!

I've been riding bikes my entire life, for 40 years. I've worked in the bike industry, and rode all the newest bikes.
Recently I bought a Specialized Turbo Levo Expert, and it is by far my most favorite bike I've ever ridden. I actually love this bike and what it allows me to do.
The Levo has changed my life in the way I ride, where I ride and how I ride.

What makes me laugh on these comments is so many people are so far up their own arse about ebikes they cannot get over the fact that are amazing machines, still give you a workout and at least for me and my type of riding (mostly xc), I can do so many more miles in the same time frame as I would on a normal MTB. What's not to like?

I totally agree with Alex. I rode a SC Heckler for a year. Recently added a 2022 Turbo Levo Pro and it is superior in every way. The finesse of the Brose motor makes steep climbs in low traction situations way way easier than on my Heckler. I still ride my Heckler and it's a nice bike but the Turbo Levo Pro is in another league. Battery life is impressive too. Yes the cost is crazy, but a lot of us are switching from riding off road motorcycles to eMTB so we think of our bicycles as motorcycle replacement. Makes the pain of the cost hurt a little less:)

Been riding pro Gen 3 for a month now coming from a SL I wanted more power and it just more fun to ride imo. I think it’s a keeper for many years to come

I didn't know they made a thicker tire, i appreciate it. I have a Levo and i have noticed the same thing with the stock tires.

My 22 Turbo Levo Expert was recently stolen and thinking of replacing with S-Works and one size smaller. Thanks for the informative review. These bikes truly are mind blowing, I’m riding more than ever, well until recently. Makes me feel 20 years younger, hoping the reflexes catch up.

Real nice review thank you. I just test rode both the Expert model which I went to the shop to get since Specialized put it on sale and ended up with the S-works. I think there is quite a difference between them and this review is really about the S-works model. S-works has lots more carbon including rims and I found you could lift the front end much easier which made it feel more fun and potentially easier to jump, and change lines. Also I could feel the weight difference on slow turns which is where I could use the help on switchbacks. Haven't owned wireless shifters before but it did seem much faster to down shift several gears than the normal shift levers. I am sure both models are great its just that $15K does get you a whole nother level. Now if I can just get over riding such an expensive bike with such a limited skill level.

I have a Giant Stance, this will be definitely a great addition, specially those who actually like to ride a bike, same goes for those who like cars and motorcycles. It is a must have.

The livery on that bike looks amazing. The kashima compliments that frame color nicely too.

Thanks for the great review. Very detailed. I am comparing the Turbo Levo Expert and the Mondraker Crafty Carbon XR. I’m 194cm tall and I weigh a smidge under 100kg, probably 105ish with gear. I have an EP8 equipped Commencal Meta Power SX Race which I’m looking to replace because I feel like the EP8 doesn’t have enough punch and fizzles out when I try to pedal at higher cadences for example if I’m trying to ascend a steep climb quickly and I find the range isn’t very good either. I know the Bosch is a powerhouse with a peak output of 600 watts and the Mondraker has the new 750Wh battery so power and range should be good. The Turbo Levo is also quite powerful with 565watts and the large 700Wh battery, while 7% smaller than the Bosch, is still a good size battery. I’ve heard good things about both bikes and I’m struggling to decide between the two. I feel like the Bosch with more power and potentially more range is the better choice but from what I hear, the Turbo Levo Gen 3 is an almost perfect bike in terms of handling/ride characteristics. Can you give me any guidance on which bike you think is better and if there will be much of a noticeable difference between the two motors when I’m really pushing it up a hill at high cadences (110-120)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I wish I could test ride them both but unfortunately that just isn’t possible where I live. It’s hard enough trying to find one in stock let alone one for demo.

My only question is for this price how many points of engagement is the rear hub. For this price bike should have ONyx or industry 9 hubs or something equal.
