Canonically they are stated to be equal and i personally explain it by vegito although being much stronger normally there is a factor to take into account and that is that when training during the fused form of gogeta, the warrior becomes much stronger than regular training as explaoned by piccolo in the hyperbolic time chamber so gogeta has a mich larger potential than vegito and also has more various techniques which i found to be super cool.

For those who wonder, the guide book telling how gogeta and vegito are the same reffers to their personality, not power level, metamoran fusion requires the fusees to have the same power level, that already handicapping gogeta due to goku being stronger by default, metamoran fusion also doesnt have the rival boost that the potara has.
