Wow some 52 years ago, he taught me all this, ( back in 1965) at his house in north London, also his own invented tecnique which he shows near the end of the video, I remember him telling me not to move the arm just the hand/fingers from the wrist, unfortunatly I didn't continue with flamenco. I do have a couple of his hand written tablaturas he wrote for me to work on. I did do some gigs in the flamenco world with Steve Higgs and Serafin Arriaza (padre) for Pablo Alvarez dance group before moving to electric
guitar, I dropped the music in 1974. All my love Paco, great memories.

What a privilege to have one of the greatest guitarists in history teaching us his magic. And how modestly his introduces himself .. Thank you great Paco.

Its amazing how professional guitar instructors can't beat the clarity of this 3 minute lesson from a master. This is really not the rule, but it happened this time.

I saw Paco Pena some years ago at Theatre Royal Norwich.  The opening scene was closed curtains with a blazing red light shining through, the sound of a hammer hitting an anvil, then vocals joining in. No people on stage, just the firey red drapes. Then the curtains raised  to reveal the troupe. When Paco played it was the most stunning performance. I have seen many live bands/musicians but that evenings performance was incredible. Got the last two seats due to a cancellation so very lucky to have been there.

Paco Pena Is a great player,  really love'em.  Really like his super clean technique. Alzapua, incredible his picado, amazing. His arpeggios on the Granadinas simply beautiful. A true Master of the Flamenco Guitar and a great human being.

I can't believe this is on YouTube. There are people out there who would pay thousands for a lesson from Pena

Mr Pena, you make the three-fingers-down-one-up rasgueado look so effortless...and it's SO difficult! What a great player!

The virtuoso says in the end of the video: "I just hope that helps..." He makes it sound so easy that I can even play it in my sleep (well, only in my dreams)!

The player actually has to build muscles in her/his hands, forearms, even fingers. We don't realize it until we try to play 2 or 3 measures of a rasgueado. Our entire forearm hurts from the effort until we get stronger. It's an amazing guitar style, and Paco P. is one of the greats.

Paco Pena, to me is possibly the greatest flamenco composer, player of all time. I find his music timeless, soul stirring like his piece Medina Azahara or Soleares. Yep, I would pay thousands to learn from him; if I had the dough! Though I can do all this rasguedos, just not that good.
