The First Day Jitters are real. Twenty-Three years into this career and I still can't sleep the night before the first day AND I am fast talking and walking in circles for the hour or so before kids and families show up the first day. You are in good company.

you should have a table captain. in each of four desks, you should have someone whose in charge of the caddy, like putting the markers back in the box or making sure it’s stocked. if you decide to keep them at the front of the room, you could have that “captain” or “leader” grab it and return it every day. they can also collect the papers from the group and hand them in so you don’t have to keep constantly keep around collecting work. each week, the leader/caption changes.

I'm going to be a new 3rd grade teacher this fall, and I just want to scream THANK YOU for making this video. Honestly, it has been very helpful for me to see how a first day is structured by another teacher, some fun activities that you can do, and how to go about introducing those procedures kids desperately need. I like to roll out routines as we come to them too, and I also use green folders as the daily communication folder. Your Friday schedule is every teacher’s dream! Have a great school year!

Watching your videos put some great ideas in my head. This will be my 1st year teaching 3rd grade and I feel absolutely terrified but excited for this journey. As you said I feel like I have no idea what I'm going to do, or I might be Everything I know will come together. Wish me luck.🤞 Instead of me going to school to be a teacher I'm going back to school and taking classes while teaching to do my teaching licensure, so I feel like I'm going in this with no teaching education but learning as I go, Which is why I feel less confident. With that being said I have had experience being an educational assistant and long term sub but never had the confidence of me being the head teacher. All my coworkers and boss saw potential and are 100% supportive, I know I can do this.

Omg i remembered thay friend scavanger hunt game and i hated it as a kid lolol i had a ton of social anxiety and no friends so i would be like standing in one spot in the room having a internal panic attack hoping others would come up to me so i wouldn't have to walk up to anyone 😂😂 i know its supposed to get you up and around the room to get to know everyone, but let me tell you it caused me stress every year. Even in college i hate that the profs make you stand up and like say your name, your major and 1 interesting thing about yourself im like please no. 😂😂 im glad your first day went well! Cant wait for more vlogs!

Just found out I’ll be teaching 3rd this year. I taught high school science (virtually) during lockdown… switching grades AND teaching for the first time in person is scary. This was nice to see!
