For people who aren't familiar with the golf lingo, "breaking 50" means fewer than 50 strokes on an 18-hole round of golf. Par is always 72 strokes, an average of 4 strokes per hole. So they had to shoot better than 22 under par, or better than -22. To do this together means a game of best ball. They take the best shot for each stroke between the two of them.
