Former 'Misfits' and Netflix’s 'The Umbrella Academy' actor Robert Sheehan delivers a captivating performance in the new Cubicolor music video ‘Rituals’

With their latest studio album ‘Hardly A Day, Hardly A Night’ maintaining itself as one of the standout albums of 2020 so far, landing at #1 on the iTunes Electronic Chart across six countries, garnering more than 6 million streams worldwide and earning the backing of BBC 6 Music’s Nemone and Phil Taggart on BBC Radio 1, electronic trio Cubicolor return to deliver the stunning visuals for their latest single ‘Rituals’.

Directed by Callum Bain at Wide-Eyed Studio and starring Irish actor Robert Sheehan, best known for his roles in cult TV hit 'Misfits', Netflix’s 'The Umbrella Academy', and 'Mortal Engines', the band’s latest video captures the warped and atmospheric intensity of their latest offering. Cutting Sheehan’s expressive movements to the subtle and pulsing nature of the track gives this video an extremely hypnotic feel, tapping into the trio’s own abstract appeal and lending their sound to a wonderfully mesmerising accompaniment.

Speaking about his new creation, director Bain said, “We all have rituals, from habitual daily activities to practices in meditation, worship, dance. Movements based on fortune and luck, or just superstition. Do they hinder or help our daily needs? Does it matter? Is the act of doing them reward enough?"

“This video explores ritualistic movements, both extreme and delicate. It visualizes the micro-movements and slight variations found in repeated rituals, it observes the forward and backward motion of time."

“We stayed at Rob’s place in Toronto last summer in between playing shows and it was there that we first talked about making a video together. We set up all our gear in the living room and were playing music all day in between running around the city in the sunshine. Those days feel like a lifetime ago now, but it’s amazing for us to be able to share this with you today."

“I’ve known Rob for years and like so many people have been a huge admirer of his work. Within those movements, there is joy, pain, anger, despair and elation. Art is all forms should make you feel something. That can be surface and deep down inside. This gets me in the gut, making me feel both at peace with the flowing images and music but also a small sense of uncomfortableness at the emotions it draws out of me to. Its evocative, fluidic, art and interpretation. I love it. Thank you Cubicolor and all involved for another amazing visual.

This album really struck a cord and changed my life this year. I was going through some inner turmoil that was a long time coming, since when you turn away from the things you don't want to see the most, the denial turns it into a mountain which avalanches. So to hear your songs and then album, it just sort of, saved me. It made me closer to god ironically, and helped me realize that imagination and music will be the sustaining forces in my life. Such beauty in sound and other people's voices, it shakes the silence in me. Thank you for that. I really think for this album you both reached such a high and profound place.
