Installing a smart thermostat without C wire| Sensi Emerson

I have a old honeywell T834C cool only thermostat with no C wire.
I am replacing it with sensi st55 which has external AA battery support. Can i use batteries instead of using C adapter? Or its is mandatory to use the C adapter?

My old thermostat had an orange and a blue wire. Should I connect those too?

I got 2 wires coming out of the wall ( red and white) how do I match them to my Sensi lite to R ; O/B ; Y ; G; W/E; C) which wires do I connect the power adapter.
