Akaza was playing with rengoku even when he was trying his hardest, and dven marked Giyuu ad tanjiro couldn’t kill akaza. So rengoku would die pretty quickly to akaza

Rengoku was not originally going to die in Mugen Train, but since animation was expensive, the producers decided to have him killed by Akaza.

I think we undersell what the wording “full potential “ means. In terms of potential for hashiras it comes down to how much room do they have to grow in relation to how strong they currently were. The “potential “ rankings should be as follows;

1. Muichiro: youngest hashira and became one in mere months and also has plenty of room for strength speed and form training. Descendant of Yorichi

2. Rengoku: Not quite at peak physical however if trained by his father would’ve hands down been a top 3 hashira in base with more breathing forms. Also worth noting that Flame Breathing being close to Sun breathing could’ve been learned by Rengoku.

3. Tengen: Speed + Battle IQ of a ninja would become deadlier. Mark and other stuff

4. Obanai: Keeping things spoiler free but I think the manga is self explanatory.

5. Mitsuri/Shinobu: More room to grow then the hashiras below but I’m not really sure if their breathing is all that good

6. Gyomei/Sanemi/Giyu: all three of these guys are pretty much at their peak

Hatengu is already enough to kill him. People thinks he's on 3rd Upper moon level because he stalled Akaza for a while when Akaza still hesitate to kill him, wanting him to become a demon instead. Like, that's basically what we should expect from 1 of the more experienced hashira

nah, most upper moons were defeated by multiple hashiras or by teamwork... From the 4th moon onwards I find it very difficult for any hashira to win solo... and even though gyuutaro was sixth, we must remember that tengen was a ninja and that's why he lasted so long against the poison, any other hashira (shinobu being a possible exception) would have lasted much less

for people being against rengoku:

during the battle between akaza vs rengoku rengoku did not unlock demon slayer mark, selfless state, STW or bright red blade but still managed to hold akaza, react to his punches, survive from a fatal hit. i hope this answers ur question and don't think for a moment I'm biased with rengoku. Full Potential has selfless state which was akaza's weakness because when he fought tanjiro he thought he was dead and akaza was used to fighting with depressed kids with having the ability to sense their energy
