Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of wealth, fortune and prosperity. Inn this mantra, she is referred to as the Goddess Kamala, meaning the lotus or pale red. Lakshmi is usually shown seated or standing on a lotus. The lotus symbolizes creation, beauty, harmony, diversity, stability, and support.

The name Lakshmi is derived from a Sanskrit word meaning goal, aim or sign. She is the wife of Vishnu and also appears as a deity in Jainism and Buddhism. "Shrim" is the seed syllable of Lakshmi as well as a general seed syllable for goddesses. Shrim means splendor, a beautiful soft light like the light of the moon.

"Hrim" is a seed syllable for the spiritual fire of the heart. "Preseeda" is another name for Lakshmi, meaning kind, benevolent or happy.

Bhakti is the yoga of devotion, usually involving music, poetry or dance. Bhakti is the path of the heart, giving love and gratitude to god in a particular form. Bhakti yoga can be done in conjunction with other spiritual practices or as a single or primary practice.
