President Vladimir Putin speaks about his order to put Russia's strategic nuclear forces on higher alert. Speaking on Sunday to his defense minister and military chief, Putin said leading NATO powers had made "aggressive statements" on top of the West's "illegitimate" sanctions. What concerns me is that Putin strikes me as the type of person that if sees himself going down, he's going to try to take somebody with him.
The only thing I can hope for if it comes to that is that the people under him will recognize what will come from their actions and simply won't listen. But hoping is all I _can_ do, and unfortunately in this kind of a situation, hoping isn't good for anything.
