MASTER OF PUPPETS but it's played like TOMAS HAAKE

Tomas Haake of Meshuggah has to be the hardest drummer to cover. Especially if it's playing Master Of Puppets by Metallica.

Dyer's Eve played by Mario Duplantier! 😁

As a guitarist I recognize the importance of the drums and bass and how they all play together. Things like this prove that. You change out the drum style, even if it's "better" it changes the entire feel of the song.

This seems as technical as Haake but maybe not as musical and groovy. Very impressive anyway!

That was bad ass! How hard did you have to fight the urge to play the original drums parts?

It’s crazy how important drums are. This video turned a thrash icon into more of a heavy metal song at times

I am waiting for 'Hammer Smashed Face' played with hammers.

This is pure gold!!! Amazing drumming!!

Wrong! Haake would just keep playing 4/4 while the rest of the band plays the one bar of 5/8.

🤘 Very cool, and it's like a totally different song. Just goes to show that while Lars isn't a shredder he's still able to play what the song requires.

Metallica is what led me to playing drums back in the 80s, so I've always been a Lars fan. But I've got to say, the more I hear people do these "Metallica played as... Insert drummer", the more. I appreciate the genius of Lars's playing within Metallica.

How well written drums can change a tune from 10/10 to holy shit / 10 🤘🏻

it's amazing how much the drums can change the song. This sounds like an entirely new song

How about dream theater if Lars played and Metallica if portnoy played?

I know this was an experimental thing but it’s a perfect example of how less is more. Everyone hangs shit on Lats but if Metallica songs were like this they would never be the immortal hits they are

It's funny how you look more focused playing this, than the ulrich bleed version^^

A friend of mine whose a touring drummer that loves Metallica once told me his opinion as to why Metallica became the biggest metal band in the world is because the drumming was so simple. It didn't sound chaotic compared to more technical drumming. The thing with Haake and a guy like Carey from Tool is that while they have super complex polyrythms going on there's a groove you can follow in everything they play that seems to be missing on this.
